Niseko Now!

Sunday 15th February 2004, 7:59am
Weather conditions: Cloud and fog
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Mild temperatures continue this morning, however, the wind has died down slightly. The heavy snow has frozen over night and is hard underfoot. Best to avoid the Sunday crowds and give muscles a well earned rest.

The earlier morning fog looks like to burn off, with the sun starting to shine behind Yotei. No rain is expected.
Groomed runs offer the best turns.

Yuzawa Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud, snow

Well, last night light rain did start to fall, and in the middle of the night we had spectacular (and very noisy) thunderstorms. The thunder has stopped now, but we are left with fairly strong winds.

It's raining in the Shiozawa valley, but wet snow falling at town level in Yuzawa and higher up right now - with snow forecast to fall all day. According to the latest reports we can expect between 25-40cm of new snow before tomorrow, so hopefully that will be accurate because after the recent mild weather and rain of last night, we are in need of some nice new fluffy white stuff.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Snow

It was a spring-like day yesterday with temperatures up to +13. This morning winter stroke back and it is snowing heavily. The snow on the bottom slopes might be a little wet and heavy, the upper area should offer good conditions.

Due to strong winds Nagasaka Gondola lift is not operating.
The halfpipe remains closed until February 19 due to maintenance.

The Mt.6 Crossmax Series will be held on Hikage "Gerende" today, go there to see some professional skiers racing. Ushikubi is closed beacuse of this event.

Kandahar west course open today.

Hakuba Now!

Weather conditions: Snow!
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Full marks to the forecasters again as the rain yesterday evening turned to snow and by midnight it was veritably puking it down. We got 20cm at village level, but riders report knee-thigh deep conditions on the hill. While the temperature has dropped somewhat compared to yesterday, the snow is still a little heavy.

The wind has whipped up and I believe the upper lifts at Happo have stopped. It's still snowing at village level, with strong gusts making it look like some of it is coming down sideways.

I think we're going to get a nice big helping of the white stuff again tonight, with the skies clearing for a bit thereafter. What a place! What a season!   Read more ...
