We're bouncing back from a chilly -2 start this morning, but these blue skies mean we wont have to wait for long to warm up. Today is absolutely beautiful. If ever there were a perfect spring morning, it might be today. For those of you interested in the scenery, today would be a great one to catch snapshots of neighboring mountain ranges from the Furano Zone ski slope.
It also looks like down towards the bottom of the mountain, ski resort management has set up a new "Pond Skimming" game/attraction that bears mentioning. Ski down the hill and then cross an 8m tarp-covered pool to receive a free lunch ticket! (Limited to first 20 people only.) The only catch is the tarp is covered in water. Should be fun for a lot of people, especially if you love spring skiing. Read more ...

Clear and sunny over Yuzawa
It was raining for pretty much all of yesterday, and quite consistently heavy as well for the most part. Not a nice day, and I hear it was wet up at Kagura as well. Best forgotten perhaps!
This morning the sun is out and it's blue skies. Over Yuzawa that is. Early on this morning over the Minamiuonuma valley there is a thick layer of low cloud just over the towns, making for some spectacular views from above it. (If you read this early on, check the top webcam from Ishiuchi Maruyama resort in our Webcam section). No doubt it will quickly disappear but it sure makes for a sight when this happens.
Anyway, yes today is sunny and blue skies so should be much more fun than yesterday. Tomorrow should also be more of the same... just less busy! The Kagura resorts in particular were very busy last weekend and I think we can probably expect a similar situation today.
Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 15th April 12, AM: Kagura - Mitsumata: 340cm Kagura - Tashiro: 310cm GALA Yuzawa: 290cm Kandatsu Kogen: 255cm

Open only on 14th/15th and 21st/22nd April: Naeba

Open until 6th May: GALA Yuzawa Kagura (Tashiro)
Open until 27th May: Kagura (Mitsumata)
All other ski resorts in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma are now closed for the season.
It is a similar story this morning in Niseko - blue skies and the sun is out. More hazy looking out towards Yotei perhaps, but nice blue skies over the Niseko slopes. Lift operations at Annupuri and Hirafu remain the same as yesterday for the weekend - from tomorrow the Hirafu Gondola will once again be taking a break until next weekend.
More sun tomorrow perhaps though things are forecast to cloud over later on, and not be quite as warm, followed by probably rain on Tuesday, with the chance that we might get a sprinkling or two of snow on the mountain.
Current lift operations (15th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu & Hanazono: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola will operate on 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.

Official snow depths:
Grand Hirafu / Hanazono: Top - 385cm Bottom - 150cm
Clear blue skies above Minakami this morning. It is a beautiful spring day - blue skies, sunshine, warm temperatures and no wind. The snow is pretty soft after the rain from yesterday but in good condition for this time of year. Perfect weather for the event up at Tenjin today which involved a BBQ outside.
The forecast says it might cloud up later and we could be back to rain again for Monday and Tuesday. After that though it should be sun for the rest of the week. Read more ...

Clear and sunny
After yesterday's day of wetness, it is good to report that this morning the sun is out and it's glorious spring day here in Hakuba. The village was shrouded in a carpet of low-lying cloud early this morning but since around 7am that has gradually melted away (is that the right term?!) and now all gone. It makes for some early morning dramatic scenery.
So, it's a spring day - warm, sunny, blue skies, no wind... and a high of around 13 or 14C later this afternoon. A fair few people out there early on enjoying it all.
It might cloud over overnight but tomorrow is also forecast to be sunny and similar conditions.
