Snow and weather reports posted on Saturday 30th May 2020

Yesterday was a clear day, though actually ended up being fairly hazy with it. This morning it is already 12 degrees here in Yuzawa and a high temperature of 18 degrees is forecast on the local forecast for later on today.
I was about to comment on how much snow had melted and the fact that Kagura was still keeping the official snow depth at 360cm, but at last there is a change... down to 360cm. Still a lot but I am sure that today will see a fair bit more shaved off that in reality. The day has started off at +6 up there.
Tomorrow is Saturday of course and will be much busier than these weekedays but unfortunately the clear sunny skies won't continue with more cloud and a good chance of rain on the forecast. Clearer skies once again likely on Sunday.
Kandatsu Kogen surprised some of us by planning to open a further weekend on 23rd-24th April, but they have once again extended their season and will not also open in Golden Week from 29th April until 8th May. So they plan to be open April 16th-17th, 23rd-24th and 29th-8th May.
It is a much better day today in terms of weather. The sun is out with clouds coming and going. Temperatures are nice and warm so it will be a true spring skiing day. The Furano Zone is holding up well and still providing good skiing from top to bottom. On the flats around the resort all the snow cover is gone and the farmers are now fully into preparing the first of their crops. Read more ...

Sun, blue sky, some wispy cloud
And more of the same again today. Some wispy clouds in the sky here and there but generally blue skies and warming up nicely after a low of around 2 degrees overnight. Later on this afternoon or evening we can expect more cloud and then rain - hopefully once the lifts have closed for the day. If we are lucky, upper elevations may even get a sprinkling of snow overnight. In the meantime temperatures may rise to around 16-18 degrees this afternoon, so it's a warm one.
Tomorrow the forecast is for cloud with a chance of rain, perhaps snow up high, and a bit of sun added into the mix... so, anyones guess then!
Next week is looking interesting. Around Tuesday there's a decent chance of some proper snowfall. Now that would be good. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts that are on each resort details page on the site (links to the right).
Anyway have a great weekend. Weekends are busy, lines for the Happo Gondola in particular as it's the only way up to those upper slopes. That means an early start is recommended to avoid a wait.
Over at 47 and Goryu, there is still great snow cover down to the bottom of the resorts.
Official snow depths and operations @ Friday 15th April AM:
Hakuba Goryu: The upper slopes at Goryu plan to be open until 8th May. The Gondola and Alps No3 pair lifts are operating. The Alps No1 pair will be open on Saturdays/Sundays and from 29th April until 8th May. The Toomi lifts are closed today but the Sky Four lift will be operating this weekend. Alps daira - 220cm.
Hakuba 47: All lifts except Line D lift operating with all courses still open. 47 plans to be open into May. Snow depth (upper) - 158cm
Happo-one: The Gondola, Alpen Quad, Kurobishi No3 pair and Panorama pair lifts are operating. The upper slopes are planning to be open until 5th May. All of the lower lifts are now closed for the season - you need to take the Gondola down to the base at the end of the day. Course areas open are: Kurobishi, Usagidaira and Panorama. The Grad quad will also be open on weekends and during Golden week, at those times opening up that top course as well. Usagidaira/Kurobishi - 165cm
Tsugaike Kogen: The Gondola as well as the Tsuga No2 pair and Han-no-ki high speed pair lifts in the upper area of the resort are operating. It is possible to ski/board right down from the top to the bottom of the resort via the Han-no-ki and lower Karamatsu courses. Snow depth upper - 245cm
Hakuba Iwatake, Hakuba Sanosaka, Cortina and Hakuba Minekata are now all closed for the season. Read more ...

Sun, clear skies
Big news this morning as the snow depth at Kagura decreases to 360cm! With the warm temperatures of the last few days and today as well, we can expect that to get lower quickly I think. This morning early on the resort was reporting a temperature of +6. We can expect that to easily rise into double digits.
Some rain might be unavoidable tonight into tomorrow, but temperatures might get down low enough tomorroe afternoon on the upper area of Kagura for it to be sprinklings of snow rather than rain. Fingers crossed on that.
Clearer conditions are likely on Sunday and then a chance of snow again on the mountain around Tuesday. Would be good.
For the coming weekend the second Mitsumata quad and an additional lift at Kagura should be open, as per last weekend.
The downhill course from the bottom of the Mitsumata slopes to the Mitsumata car park is also open for the weekend.
Official Snow Depth:
We will post updates to this Naeba Now section a few times a week until the end of the season at Kagura. At the same time, the Yuzawa Now report area will continue to be updated on a daily basis including any information on Kagura as well. So please keep an eye on that report as well for the most up-to-date information on Kagura. Read more ...

Sun, clear skies
Another sunny and blue sky day in Zao as the resort prepares to be part open for the weekend - for details see below.
Cloud and sun but with a chance of slight rainfall/snowfall tomorrow afternoon, and then clearer on Sunday. Into next week and there may be a chance of some fresh snowfall on the mountain as well.
If you are going to be in Zao for the weekend, have fun... make the most of it!
