Weather conditions: Cloud and fog
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No new snow overnight, and temperatures are mild this morning. With a double low front approaching from the south, air temperature is expected to further rise, and there is a chance of rain this afternoon.

Skies are currently overcast, and fog blankets the top half of the mountain. Lower mountain offers best visibility, but snow conditions are heavy. Early morning groomers followed by an onsen are today's pick.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 14th February 2004, 8:34am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another beautiful day with blue skies, still winds and mild temperatures. The weatherforecast tells us that we will get snow in the evening, so powder freaks should look forward to tomorrow.

The Salomon Crossmax Series will be held on Hikage "Gerende" today, stop by and watch the action going on there. Due to this event Ushikubi course remains closed until Monday.

"Nighta" from 5:30 to 8pm at the Nagasaka slopes.

Kandahar west course will be open from February 15 to 17 (Skiers only).

There is a thread on the snowjapan Forum discussing off piste skiing and dealing with the ski patrol. So a short word on the patrol in Nozawa. Since this year the areas under the Yamabiko lifts are open on your own responsibility. They won't stop you there and this area offers great tree and powder skiing!

The back of the mountain is off limit and is an avalanche area! Don't go there by yourself and without gear.    Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 14th February 2004, 10:58am
Weather conditions: Sun, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Indeed a fine start to the day! Sun is out and surprisingly many of the slopes are not busy - take a look at the Iwappara cams below! Hard to believe it's a mid-February Saturday.

Currently around +2, and rain is forecast for tonight. Don't fret, if the forecasts are correct that will turn into snow late tonight and we're due for a snowy day tomorrow.

That'll be good as the slopes are in need of a topup, espcecially lower slopes. It feels distinctly "spring-like" outside this morning....

----

Later updated:

Very spring like weather and conditions today, clouds moving in later on in the afternoon. There have also been strong winds this afternoon in the region.

Rain turning into snow is still forecast for later tonight, but not yet started - and hopefully temperatures will drop enough to bring us the forecast snow tomorrow....

(On the news just now - today was announced as "haru ichiban" in Niigata - not sure of the exact conditions required for that to be the case, but it's sure to involve warm temperatures and fairly strong winds. It's also 18 days earlier than last year)    Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 14th February 2004, 14:56pm
Weather conditions: Overcast, snow (some rain lower down?) imminent
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It was fine first thing today, but it has since clouded over and is now a little dark. I think may have already started snowing higher up.

It's quite warm today, and is now four degrees at village level. It's looking like it might rain on us down here. The wind is quite high.

The forecast is for the temperature to drop and for a good snowfall overnight. Please make it the dry stuff!
