Weather conditions: Cloud, light rain, foggy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The rain did arrive last night, and early this morning there is some light rain falling. That will probably not last long though. Some low lying cloud and fog as well early on, and so visiblity is poor.

Tomorrow looks set to be a fine, sunny day and so a good time to enjoy some spring riding while we still can.... we'll update this page later this evening with more news for the weekend.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 14th April 2006, 14:10pm
Weather conditions: Low cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
There was some rain yesterday but not too much. Today has so far been very cloudy, with low clouds in many areas though they seem to be breaking up a bit this afternoon. Fairly cold as well for the time of year. The forecast for tomorrow is cloud/sun so it should be a decent "spring ski" day out there, and while there are certainly more people at weekends than weekdays (when the slopes are very empty) things shouldn't be too busy.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Friday 14th April 2006, 15:01pm
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Magnificent day here in Niseko. Barely a cloud in the sky and plenty of sunshine for those of us who've been deprived of it all winter. There's a few people up on the mountain enjoying the views and skiing but I think most of us are just happy to see the snow finally melting away. Kutchan is down to only 1m average cover and I'd say most of that should be gone by the end of the month. Most coastal areas in the southern and eastern part of Hokkaido are now free of snow although heavier snowfall areas like Otaru still have around 40cm or so. Still last night saw some snow fall through eastern and central parts of the island so winter has totally gone just yet. Clear night forecast tonight with temps expected to fall to -7 in Kutchan. So snow conditions should be hard early tomorrow before softening in the sun. Great conditions for heading out backcountry but be very cautious as there have been some big slides off some of the steeper slopes in the region.
