Nozawa Onsen Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:01am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another grey and cloudy morning in the village today with no new snow to report. The Paradise course is open today. Yesterday saw packed snow with poor visibility.

However, the weather report is looking great for the next few days with drastically dropping temperatures and increasing snowfall. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the 25cm that is meant to fall on Saturday night!   Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:08am
Weather conditions: Cloud, rain (light snow at Kagura)
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a bright morning to start things off today with the temperature hovering at around +5 degrees at the moment - so quite mild. We have rain forecast for today on and off but for the moment it is holding off.

Kagura are once again reporting snow falling up high on the main gelende, though right now it is hard to imagine it being anything other than light snow. It will be blown about though as already we have some fairly gusty winds down at town level and strong winds are forecast for the rest of the day.

Things are looking very promising for the coming week. We have snow lined up for tomorrow and then for every day in the next week, so fingers crossed this turns into decent snowfall in the region.

PM update:

A bit of an update.... some strong winds blowing things around this morning and it still not raining here.

Tomorrow, both Gala Yuzawa and Kandatsu were planning to open.

It is looking like Gala Yuzawa will be able to open as planned from tomorrow. They currently are reporting 50cm of snow and are hoping for some more snowfall tonight, but even if it doesn't, they look all set to open.

Yesterday Kandatsu was reporting 0-10cm on lower slopes and up to 60cm higher up, but that is not enough to open with and while they will not able to open tomorrow as planned, they will be on stand-by to open as soon as they can after the 15th.

More news on resort openings coming tomorrow...    Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:17am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow higher up
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Like yesterday the top half of the mountain isn't visible and snow is falling up there, but down in the village no snow (or rain) at the moment. Snow is also reportedly falling over at Kagura, though the official snow-depth has not changed these last few days.

It is 2 degrees at the moment and a fairly strong wind blowing.

The lower slopes of Naeba have patches of brown earth showing once again, reminding us that we need more snow! But there are good signs that we will be getting some decent snowfalls in the coming week, with snow on the forecast from tomorrow right through into next week.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:24am
Weather conditions: overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
If yesterday seemed warm today will be warmer. The large high pressure system that is sitting upon us is bringing in higher temperatures and maybe some rain if we get precipitation in the village today. Winds are coming from the west and it will be mostly cloudy with the temperature sitting about -2/4.

The groomers will most likely be your best choice this morning but will probably soften up this afternoon making for some good soft mogul runs if your knees are up for it. Hanazono has been great but watch out for some ungroomed sections through the Hanazono lift #1 lift.

The hill isn't overly busy now but the people are trickling in at a steady rate. The village has the damp wet feel of melt right now so we can only hope that this system moves on quickly so we may have colder temperatures in the near future.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:38am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Still some snow on the roads, but no new snow to report this morning. It is relatively mild as well for this region with the temperature currently just above zero.

Early on there is a fair amount of cloud in the sky, but currently that's all it is - cloudy.

It looks like we can expect things to get colder later on today and into tomorrow and as things stand we have snow forecast for every day in the coming week.

We'll bring you the news of the snow as we get it - hopefully starting tomorrow!   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Thursday 13th December 2007, 8:59am
Weather conditions: Cloudy and Rain/Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It is raining in the village today and Goryu is reporting 5cms of fresh snow up top last night with wet rain/snow currently falling up there.

Fairly high temperatures in the village today with a high of 9 forecast in the village but it looks like temperatures will be dropping over the next couple of days with a large low moving in and heavy snow is being forecast for Saturday night.

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

There's enough snow now to produce large scale avalanches big enough to bury a person. Travel with caution if going back-country/off-piste. Also watch for partially buried rocks/stumps etc. under shallow snow-pack and potential human triggered slides in wind deposited convex rolls and gullies. Be especially cautious with warming and rain today.

It is a warm and almost humid morning with heavy cloud spilling into the valleys. Good snow up on the tops above the freeze level that is gradually dropping down onto the lower slopes as the wind direction changes around towards the north.

More snow is expected up on the higher fields in the afternoon as the temperature cools, with snow forecast in the coming week as well.
