Overcast in Minakami this morning. Grey clouds everywhere and a couple of spots of rain have been falling on and off. The forecast is for heavy rain tonight and that probably means up at Tenjin too. It is still good spring conditions up there with soft snow and plenty of park features.
The forecast is looking a bit grim at the moment. Rain from tonight and into Saturday. Fine on Sunday and then it is due to cloud up again on Monday. Rain from Tuesday onwards. Read more ...

It hasn't been the most eventful week weather wise though probably not as warm as we were expecting it to be.
Today starts off cloudy and mild, with clearer conditions likely later on.
While Kagura keeps on being pretty much fully open every day, tomorrow sees Naeba re-open for the weekend. Naeba plans to have the No2 Gondola, No5 quad and Takenokodaira pair lift moving and the following courses open - Takenokodaira, Daishamen, Downhill, No4 quad course, Wakuwaku course and No5 course.
Unfortunately, it's looking like tomorrow is going to bring some rain with it down at base anyway - with a chance of snow higher up on the mountain both at Naeba and Kagura.
Sunday should be clearer with the sun out and so that would be the pick of the weekend. Have fun!
We will update this Naeba Now report before each weekend right through until the season at Kagura, and in the meantime we will be keeping the Yuzawa Now! reports going on a daily basis right through until the last ski lift stops moving.
Resort Operations, 13th April (subject to change) Naeba: Naeba re-opens on April 14th/15th and April 21st/22nd. Kagura: Open as normal. Official snow depths Naeba: 230cm Kagura: 360cm Read more ...

Cloud, sleet, light snow
The clouds have been with us overnight in Niseko and still with us with a touch of sleet with even some snow falling on the mountain - no personal confirmation on that, but Grand Hirafu are reporting light snow falling up top this morning and it is definitely colder than it was yesterday morning. There's less of a wind as well, though visibility will be worse up there.
According to the local forecast the current conditions should clear up pretty quickly followed by that run of clear and sunny days we have been expecting. Should be sunny conditions for the weekend.
The lifts at both Hirafu and Annupuri are open as planned this morning, as noted below.
The Hirafu Gondola will be open for the weekend as well as the current lifts.
Current lift operations (13th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu & Hanazono: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola will operate on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
Official snow depths:
Grand Hirafu / Hanazono: Top - 395cm Bottom - 150cm
Yesterday was a fine day weather wise, with some wispy thin cloud starting to develop in the afternoon.
This morning there is just a bit of cloud hanging around and a hazy kind of start to the day. The sun is shining down though in places and so generally it's another bright and cheerful one.
So tomorrow it's another weekend but I have to report that it's likely that it is going to be a wet one with rain forecast for the day. But, we might see it snowing higher up on the mountains, so fingers crossed for that. Whether that happens and if it can make up for conditions lower down, we'll just have to see...
Things look much better for Sunday when we can expect more sunny conditions.

Overnight Furano was buffeted by strong winds and rain. The winds have all but gone now, but there is still some light rain falling. Temperatures while still above zero, are much cooler than what we have experienced over the last couple of days. Just a couple of very warm days have reduced snowbanks at the side of the road by about half a metre. Snow conditons on the mountain are typical soft spring conditions. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!

Fine, some cloud
After the fine weather of yesterday, there's a bit more cloud over Nozawa this morning, though there is still some blue sky on show and the sun out.
It's looking like we might get to see some fresh snowfall up top tomorrow, but it will most likely be raining lower down and in the village for most of the day. For those of you planning one day out this weekend, I might suggest Sunday as the better of the two as it does look like it should be back to clearer and sunnier skies for that day. Would be great to see some fresh snow up top though, lets hope it happens.
From today until Sunday, up in the Yamabiko area, there will be some 2013 new model ski and snowboard try-outs, and anyone at the resort can turn up and give it a go for free. Lots of the big manufacturers are represented and so maybe well worth a look.
Current Official Snow Depths Numbers:
* Readings by the resort from lower slopes now seem to have finished - though there's still plenty.
Current Lift operations (scheduled): Nagasaka Gondola Yamabiko Four Yamabiko Four No2 Skyline Link
Main courses open (scheduled): Yamabiko A Yamabiko B Yamabiko C Yamabiko D Yamabiko E Skyline Uenotaira Paradise Schneider Utopia courses Yunomine A, B Challenge Bunabayashi Rinkan
And sunny it is, this morning in Zao. It's about 5 degrees in the village (close to 0C up top) and there's a fairly strong wind blowing about.
So how about the weekend? Well, the latest forecast looks something like this - chance of rain/snow tomorrow and then clearer conditions on Sunday when it should be quite warm and perhaps a temperature into double figures.
A few lifts plan to re-open for the weekend - details below.
Official snow depths (13th April 12) Utopia - 210cm Chuo - 215cm Paradise - 215cm Uwanodai - 135cm

Cloud, clear in places
This morning started off generally cloudy and a bit dull but it has been gradually clearing up and getting brighter over the last few hours. It is still quite cloudy over the town here, but blue patches opening up over Kagura and also to the north over the Minamiuonuma area. Forecast has this continuing as the day progresses and a high temperature of around 10C.
It might be raining by the end of the day though and tomorrow the forecast for Yuzawa is rain in town but a chance of snowfall higher up. Would be great if that happened. The sun will probably be back for Sunday though.
Naeba will be re-opening for the weekend - more information on the Naeba Now report.
Sunday sees the last 'daily' open for Kandatsu Kogen resort, which after that plans to open on 21st/22nd April and then from 28th April until 6th May. For those who don't know, Sunday 6th May is the last day of the Golden Week holidays in Japan. 6th May will also be the last day for Gala Yuzawa and the Tashiro area of Kagura.

Shiga Kogen Now!
Friday 13th April 2012, 10:55am
Blue skies, some wispy cloud
It is another fine morning here in Shiga Kogen - more thin and wispy looking clouds around than there were yesterday but the sun is out and lots of blue sky again. Once again, it's quite a mild morning with a pleasant breeze.
Here's some good news... there is a decent chance that we might get some snow falling in Shiga Kogen over the weekend. Lower down in the valley it will be raining but up there, good chance of snow. So let's crossing all those fingers for that - would be brilliant to have some fresh snow to play in for the weekend.
For the upcoming weekend a few resorts that have been closed this week will be getting some lifts moving once again including Yakebitaiyama, Terakoya and Ichinose Diamond. For details please see below.
** Please note that the next Shiga Kogen Now report will be posted on Monday. Have a good weekend and see you on the other side.
Areas with lifts still operating on Friday (more to open for weekend - see below): Mammoth (one quad) Ichinose Family (one pair and one quad) Okushiga Kogen (two pairs) Kumanoyu (three pairs) Yokoteyama/Shibutoge (one triple, four pairs)
