Yuzawa Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 8:28am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday later on in the evening it started raining in Yuzawa - heavy at times - and continued until early this morning. Right now it's not raining and the forecast for the day is cloud. Cloudy it is too with cloud pretty much covering the sky from view. (A quick look at the Naeba webcam shows that the sun is peeking through the clouds up there right now).

It is a bit colder than it has been, though still around 5 degrees at the time of writing in town with a high of around 8 degrees forecast.

So what about the weekend then? Well, Kagura is reporting some snowfall but not how many cm and the official snow depth has not changed and so it really doesn't sound like there has been much to talk of. The shuttle bus taking people from the Ropeway to the Gondola is still operating.

The forecast? Tomorrow looks like it will be cloudy but we can expect some snow Saturday night into Sunday and then after that on Tuesday/Wednesday.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 8:30am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Some reasonable falls throughout yesterday and last night of up to 20cm. And it's the good stuff, light and fluffy powder. May not be quite enough for bottomless turns but there's a bit of wind about so should be able to find some deeper stuff in drift areas. Today will remain cool to cold with snow showers on and off. Similar conditions for tomorrow.

Well I'm heading up to enjoy it. Should be able to post later with an update.

Lifts open today;

In Hirafu the Ace Family, #2 & #3, King #1, Swinging Monkey, Hirafu Gondola and the Hooded Triple are running. At Hanazono the #3 lift is running.
In Niseko Village Gondola, Banzai, Country Road & Community Chairs and are running.
In Annupuri the Gondola, Jumbo #'s 1,2 and 3 are running   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 8:39am
Weather conditions: Cloud, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good morning. Lots of cloud in the sky but the sun is managing to appear through them and it's a bright crisp morning. Rain was falling last night but happily that has cleared up. Kagura are reporting a sprinkling of snow overnight, but not telling us any numbers so I think that means it was just a sprinkling! The shuttle bus is still operating from the top of Mitsumata Ropeway to the base of Kagura Gondola.

So, when's this snow going to turn up? Well, it looks like Saturday night and into Sunday we might get some snow so over the weekend Sunday looks like the better choice. Then after that it is looking like it will be Tuesday night when we can expect more snowfall.

Naeba is still planning to open No. 5 lift and course on Saturday and of course Tashiro has it's official opening on Saturday.    Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Shiga Kogen.

A bit of snow overnight - don't get too excited just a sprinkling - but this morning it's cloudy right now but looks like it will be a generally fine day. Temperatures are back below zero as well which is a good sign and it feels a bit more like winter than it has done for most of this last week. Snow is lined up for tomorrow night as well so fingers crossed it will bring us enough to open up more of the resort areas.

Resort areas open for today in Shiga Kogen are as follows:

Yokoteyama (6 lifts)
Kumanoyu (3 lifts)
Yakebitaiyama (2 lifts)
Ichinose Family (2 lifts)
Ichinose Diamond (1 lift)
Nishitateyama (upper, 1 lift)
Mammoth (2 lifts)
Terakoya (2 lifts)
Maruike (1 lift)

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 9:15am
Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Sunny again in Nozawa this morning, with some light cloud. The much anticipated snow falls expected overnight did not eventuate, and we instead received some showers. It is currently 7 degrees in the village and 1 degree on Yamabiko.

Cloud is expected to accumulate throughout the day and bring some light precipitation in the afternoon and evening, predicted to fall as snow on the higher slopes. With only 35cm base at Yamabiko and 30cm at Uenodaira we are in need of some decent falls soon!

The outlook for the next four days suggests snow could be on the way Saturday night and Sunday, although it may fall as rain on the lower slopes and in the village.

Courses open:
Yamabiko A- 1300m
Yamabiko C - 850m
Yamabiko D - 1250
Uenodaira - 2000m

Lifts operating:
Nagasaka Gondola
Yamabiko Four lift
Yamabiko No2 Four lift
Uenodaira Four lift   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 10:07am
Weather conditions: Sunny
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's opening day for Akakura Kanko (Akakan) and Akakura Onsen Resorts. While some snowfall dusted the slopes, the morning sun melted it just as expediently:(
The gusts and winds are frigid, but the ambient temps are too high to sustain the snow.

But the thermomter falls ever further this evening and through the weekend, with snow slated for even low-lying areas by Monday. Keep an eye open this weekend:)   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 10:10am
Weather conditions: Mainly clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A lot of rain in the valley last night. Sure it was snow up there somewhere but with Goryu reporting a base of 75cms this morning it seems everywhere got hammered.

Clear day today with temps measured at plus 1 degrees on top and around 5/6 in the valley. Strong winds however have closed Goryu, 47 and Happo this morning...check with skifields as they plant to start them moving when the wind slows. Tsugaike is running.

Forecast is for rain tomorrow (fingers crossed for snow up top) and snow on Sunday with warm temperatures through next week.

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Sorry for the delay, snow fans. So much snow creates its own set of problems, and this is my first chance to sit down at the computer all day.

It started snowing yesterday evening, and kind of stopped around 15 cm. It started up heavily again this morning, and really hasn't stopped. There is at least 25 cm down now, and it's still snowing.

Forecast calls for snow 6 out of the next 8 days, so this could pan out very, very nicely for Furano. Yipee!

It goes without saying that the stuff is light, fluffy, and very dry. Oh yes.

Now we just have to wait a few days until the Prince decides to open the Kitanomine side and the rest of the runs on the Furano side. At this rate, that won't be long.

Stay tuned to Furano Now.

Minakami Now!

Friday 12th December 2008, 17:00pm
Weather conditions: scattered cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another warm day in Minakami today with midday temperatures around 9 deg C. If you are looking for a weekend in the snow, then Hokkaido is probably the only place with any real snow as yet.

The 2 week forecast is predicting cold weather coming in from the end of next week as the Winter weather patterns start to set in. This should bring the much awaited snow. Stay tuned for details!
