Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 26th May 2019
Thursday 12th April 2012, 8:41am
Ah, we are back to something like normal this morning! All resorts scheduled to be open today - Kagura, Gala Yuzawa and Kandatsu - seem to be open as planned.
The winds have calmed down considerably, there's no rain falling and as I speak the sun has started to come out from behind the cloud left up there. There is increasingly blue sky on show as well just to the north in Minamiuonuma. It feels like it should turn into a fine day, and a high of about 10C degrees is forecast.
Actually back at the weekend we were expecting a very warm week in Yuzawa. It hasn't quite turned out that way and especially in the evenings it is getting chilly out there. Last night it was fog and when I went out for a walk I put my gloves on. So we are still not really into full-on spring mode, in terms of the weather conditions anyway. Perhaps that is on it's way soon though as the forecast temperatures over the coming week continue to gradually rise. The first day of the year with a high of 20 degrees coming early in the week is a possibility.

Clear blue skies
So yesterday is probably best left forgotten in terms of weather as the drizzle continued and didn't make conditons particularly exciting out there.
This morning I bring much better news though as the sun is out and anyone playing 'Spot The Cloud' will be in for a difficult time and have to look to the east to find them, as it's clear blue skies over Hakuba early on. Lovely morning. It might rise to around 13-14C degrees this afternoon. There is just a slight northerly wind.
And tomorrow looks like it should be fine and clear as well.... and over the weekend too.
News from around the resorts - 47 are saying that because of the rainy conditions we had yesterday, their courses remain ungroomed this morning. (Sadly, there's not 40cm of fresh snow to play in!)

Clear, blue skies
I'm happy to report that we are back open this morning with much clearer and calmer conditions over Nozawa.... the four lifts mentioned below are all moving and taking people up the mountain. Actually it's a lovely clear morning with blue skies up there. The local forecast has a high of around +8 degrees lined up for later on this afternoon with similar conditions likely tomorrow. For the weekend it looks like it should be a mix of cloud and sun as well actually.

An early morning fog and cloud this morning, though the foggy conditions have lifted in the last hour or so. A little more chilly than yesterday morning but still around 4C in the village at the moment. There is a bit of wind out there. And that's about it really.
Taking a look at the forecast we can expect to see the mercury rise somewhat for the weekend and into early next week with generally cloudy and/or sunny conditions for the next few days. The clouds we have over Zao now are set to probably clear up as the day moves on.

Clear blue skies
Good morning from Niseko.
Much nicer conditions this morning. The sun is out and some lovely clear blue skies. Yotei is looking majestic this morning (although having said that I can't think of a time when Yotei doesn't!)
There's less of a wind today but still quite windy up on the mountain apparently. It is a bit colder up there as well early this morning but generally about the same temperature wise in the village early on but we can expect it to warm up more than yesterday with a forecast high of around 8 degrees.
At Hirafu it looks like the King #3 lift is moving but slower than usual and as of 9am the top King lift was on standby. Over at Annupuri the Gondola and Jumbo #1 and #3 lifts are moving with the top #4 on standby. Hopefully they will get moving as well soon. [10am update -- operating as normal now]
Other than perhaps a chance of rain late today/tonight, it still looks like the next few days until early next week is going to be more sun and clear conditions. And warm too.
Remember that for the weekend, the Hirafu Gondola will be open as well as the current lifts.
Current lift operations (updated 10am, 12th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu & Hanazono: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola is closed on weekdays but plans to be operating again on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
Official snow depths:
Grand Hirafu / Hanazono: Top - 400cm Bottom - 155cm
It's another change in conditions this morning as we enjoy a clear and sunny, bright blue sky morning in Shiga Kogen. Not a cloud to be found. Nice.
A colder start than yesterday but I would imagine things will warm up a bit with the sun out and shining down - it's definitely a day for sunscreen. There's a bit of wind as well so those sun rays will get slapped on you going down the courses today.
There's a chance of rain/snow higher up tomorrow night into Saturday but apart from that generally clearer and milder conditions look set to prevail into the weekend.
Conditions should calm down by tomorrow when cloud and sun is on the forecast.
Extremely quiet out there on the slopes, for those lucky enough to be out there!

Thursday 12th April 2012, 10:00am
Warm spring temperatures continue in Minakami with perfect blue skies this morning. Bit of wind around though which might cause so problems with lift operation up at Tenjin this morning. It is not as warm as previous days so the snow will be a little harder this morning but likely to soften up mid-morning.
Warm temperatures still on the forecast for the next week though it looks as if there is some rain coming in Friday night and then again from Monday next week. Read more ...
