Myoko Now!

Saturday 12th April 2008, 8:15am
Weather conditions: Cloudy with fog
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The rains have subsided for the most part, giving way to fog. These light soaking rains have sped up the melting process considerably, but Golden Week should still have its fair share of snow left.

Today's pick is Seki Onsen. The fog isn't as heavy up there and neither are the crowds.

Your Myoko area levels for today:
165cm (Akakura Kanko Resort);
155cm (Akakura Onsen);
395cm (Seki Onsen)

Furano Now!

Weather conditions: snowing heavily
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
April snow. It is snowing this morning. Thank you very much. The temperature in town is 6 degrees, but snow is falling very heavily. Visibility is poor. A white blanket has covered cars and those who have already changed to summer tires must be a little concerned by this unseasonal snow fall.

Ski resort operations remain as top to bottom skiing on the Furano Zone accessed by the Furano Ropeway and the Top Chair Number 3.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 12th April 2008, 9:56am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Light rain in the village overnight and this morning looking to continue throughout the day. Temperatures have dropped, it is currently 1degrees C in the village and -1degrees C at the top of the resort. The resort is barely visible from the village, with thick low lying cloud cover and moderate winds it is not looking like the best day for skiing.

With the freezing level at 650metres and dropping to 350metres tonight, we may see some fresh snow on the top half of the resort.

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 12th April 2008, 9:59am
Weather conditions: Under cloudy skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Hakuba is currently sitting under cloudy skies with good visibility to the top. No new snow to report today however those keen souls looking for solitude will no doubt find some as the slopes are near to deserted!

The last day of operation for Hakuba Goryu, Hakuba 47, Happo One and Tsugaike will be May 6th. It is always novel to go for a ski in your shorts on a May morning and then enjoy a picnic lunch underneath the blooming cherry trees before getting a good Mt. bike ride in or enjoying a relaxing afternoon on lake Aokiko. Yep it's that month of the year in Hakuba where you can enjoy all that Hakuba has to offer.

Take care if heading off piste or in the trees as there are open glide cracks in the snow, hollow sections that can collapse and wet snow avalanches on steep lines on any aspects. Those heading backcountry should be aware of also rockfall coming down from melting snow, rocks and trees on the snow surface and water flowing under the snow that can make crossing creeks and gullies potentially treacherous.

Avalanche Advisory:

Below tree line: Low

Tree line: Low

Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 12th April 2008, 10:38am
Weather conditions: Light rain > cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The forecast last night was for cloud but unfortunately there is light rain falling this morning in Yuzawa. Hopefully that will clear up sooner than later - it is quite bright at the moment and up at Naeba it seems clearer - and it is looking likely that tomorrow will be fine with a good chance of sun. With all the cloud it's not particularly warm this morning, currently around 7 degrees. Tomorrow should be warmer.

Last weekend for Kandatsu, Maiko and Iwappara.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The fog from yesterday has cleared up and this morning things are much clearer. There is still a fair bit of of cloud around, but also some breaks in the cloud and blue sky on view in places.

As mentioned in yesterday report, more of Shiga Kogen is open for the weekend and of course more people expected out on the slopes.

It's a fairly chilly morning - just above zero in most areas.

The forecast for tomorrow is fine/cloudy and mild weather.

Have a good weekend, the next report will be on Monday.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud, some blue sky
New snowfall: --

It is clearer today - still some cloud up on the mountain but quite a bit of blue sky on show as well. Those patches of ground on show at Naeba seem to be getting quite bigger every day, but the resort will surely be able to keep open the upper slopes until the planned closing on May 6th.

Tomorrow looks like it might be fine with cloud/sun on the forecast.

Prine No 2 Gondola
No 3 quad lift
No 5 quad lift
No 4 romance (pair) lift
Takenokodaira romance (pair) lift

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 12th April 2008, 11:18am
Weather conditions: Fog, cloud, sun - variable!
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A mix of weather this morning. Up on the top of the mountain visibility is low with fog and cloud while A bit lower down the mountain and there's some cloud but breaks with the sun showing through. Those clouds are moving fast as I look up into the sky at the moment so quite changeable conditions.

As mentioned yesterday, more lifts moving for the weekend as more people arrive to get some more spring skiing and snowboarding in.

Fine weather is currently forecast for tomorrow.    Read more ...
