Shiga Kogen Now!
Thursday 11th October 2012, 10:48am
Summer was hot as you probably know and even hot up here in Shiga Kogen. Much better than down in the valleys though and so a fair few people enjoyed themselves in Shiga Kogen as they escaped the worst of the heat.
Things have been cooling down recently and especially in the last week or two. Autumn has made it's spectacular appearance and the evenings are - dare I say it - cold now. Yes, I'll say that because I like cold. Up top it is sometimes even approaching zero overnight some days though it is around 10 degrees during the daytime.
We should be enjoying autumn for a few more weeks and then before you know it winter will be just around the corner. Not quite yet though. It's exciting thinking about it though.
I'll be back with more updates over the next few weeks and in the run up to winter.
Green season lift operations continue around the area as noted below (subject to change):

The heat of the summer lasted longer than probably most of us would have liked, but it's all a memory now with lovely autumn weather being enjoyed. A great time of the year for sure, and only even better whiter things ahead of us.
Evenings are decidedly chilly now with the temperature often dipping down into double figures, though rising to between 15 and 20 degrees in the daytimes at the moment. Just right. The autumn scenery is coming on as well and up on the mountains now there are all shades of reds, yellows amongst the green - and while it's still mostly green in the village, it's quickly making it's way down lower as the days tick away.
It looks like we should generally have fine weather through into next week with similar conditions.
If you plan to visit Hakuba to enjoy the autumn scenery, just be sure to remember a camera! Read more ...
