A light dusting of snow above 1800m a couple of weeks ago got the local powder hounds excited but it was short lived as the warmer October weather returned. (First snow was 10 days earlier than last year.)
Minakami has been having a wetter than usual October so far with midday temperatures averaging around 18 deg C. The past few days have brought some beautiful "akibare" (clear autumn skies)days with temperatures as high as 25 deg C.
The "kouyou" (changing of the leaves) season has begun with the foliage over 1500m now showing golden leaves. This always brings in a huge influx of tourists which create mini traffic jams around the popular spots; tanigawadake, teruhakyou, suwakyou.
