Overcast & snowing
Yes you guessed it, it is still snowing and deposited another 30 cm in the valley and more than 40 cm at the top of Happo Gondola over night. It is becoming almost a - hate to say it - hinderance it is snowing so much! Digging cars out was at first a novel necessity yet now it has become anything but novel. The thing that we have been fortunate about is that there has been very little wind associated with all the snow.
We have enough snow in Hakuba to run all courses and lifts but the ski hills do not have the staff to run these lifts so we will not have full lift capabilities until next week.
If you want to witness more fresh snow than you have ever seen in your life come to Hakuba just make sure you bring your mask and snorkel.
Heavy snow fell continuously yesterday dropping over 40cm in the village. The snow continued through the night with another 15-20cm. This morning is a little milder but the wind has really picked up and we have blizzard like conditions across the mountain. Currently lift operation is limited due to the winds. When the wind dies down there should be bottomless turns right across the mountain.
Now this is more like it. It has been snowing since later on yesterday and things are looking more like winter this morning - there's probably been around 20-30cm fall overnight. As well as topping up the places already open of course, if this carries on it will go a long way to bringing other places ready to open. Iwappara have already confirmed that they will open up tomorrow.
The snow is back with us today with about 10cm overnight and more falling this morning. More lifts are opening up now as more snow arrives - we're still far from fully open as there is still not a huge amount of snow, but if we get continued snowfall it shouldn't be long. It's gotten real cold again this morning with temperatures taking a plunge back down. Read more ...

Heavy snowfall in village since 11am yesterday
Snowing very heavily since yesterday late morning. The air is thick with huge flakes making it hard to see very far...it is absolutely relentless. If it continues like this for many more days we will be up to our navels in the fluffy white stuff when we walk to the local hot spring bath. You may need a snorkel if you go up higher than the lower lifts. OK maybe not, but suffice it to say it is snowing VERY well right now, lets hope it continues all next week. Read more ...
