Aizu Bandai Now!
Thursday 11th April 2019, 8:15am
Good morning from Urabandai.
Some quite heavy snowfall yesterday evening through the night and all ski hills and roads are covered by snow this morning once again. 14cm of new snow has been measured at the base of Grandeco and maybe (surely?) more on the upper course.
It is cloudy right now and the snow on the slopes is not top season dry snow, but it is certainly good condition for approaching the middle of April!
It will be a cloudy day today and turn into a starry night and tomorrow a sunny day with warm winds is expected.
For the skiers who want to catch the early morning snow, Grandeco opens from 8:30, Nekoma opens from 7:30 on weekdays and 5:55 on the weekend and national holidays!
The photos for today are from Nekoma (the first two) and Grandeco.
Nekoma - Alts 'walking link'
The Alts Bandai resort has already closed for the season but in what seems to be an experimental kind of special opening, there is now an official 'walking link' available between the Nekoma and Alts Bandai resorts, with Alts opening up their top Muhyo ski lift.
This is how it works.
Basically you get up to the top of the Nekoma resort via the Excite Cat Chair lift. You can walk about 800m (15 minutes) over to the top of the Alts Bandai resort - there is a rope along the way to keep you going in the right direction - where the Muhyo lift is operating. You can then enjoy the top area of Alts Bandai using the Muhyo lift.
It is important to note that you cannot ski back down to the base of Alts Bandai and it is prohibited to go outside of the official walking course.
Once you have had your fill of the top of Alts Bandai you need to then walk back over to the top of Nekoma, and then ski/board back down to the base of that resort.
The Mukyo lift is open between 9am and 1pm; the walking link is open between 9am and 1:30pm; the gate on the Nekoma side closes at noon.
This link will be open until the middle of this month so if you want to try it out, you'll need to get there soon!
It will be interesting to see if this idea is deemed a success and what kind of feedback the resorts get. It is unknown right now if they have kind of plans to do this again next year in any form.
Perhaps we can look forward to more news on this next season. We'll keep an eye on it.
Nekoma - lift 4/5, course 11/11 open (open until there is enough snow) Grandeco - lift 2/5 include one gondola, course 8/11 open (open until there is enough snow)

Good morning from Yuzawa.
There is a bit more snow in higher elevations this morning - 5cm being reported by Kagura and snow to be seen on the webcam on the part of Route 17 near Tashiro - but it has been raining down at town level with wet roads.
A high of about 6C is forecast for today, slightly higher tomorrow along with a return to sunnier skies.
GALA closed at 1pm yesterday I believe due to winds and this morning wind is affecting Kagura which is open up until the Number 1 romance lift and the Tashiro Area is closed. More of Kagura may open depending on the wind conditions.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Thursday 11th April 2019, 9:02am
Hello from Nozawa.
Just a dusting down below but another 5cm of fresh snowfall is being reported by the resort up on the top Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas - the areas that matter being the main place you can still ski or board (though you can still get back down to base without riding a lift).
Very limited visibility at the start of the day up there...
It does look like things will start warming up again from the weekend. Perhaps the start of proper spring?
Thursday 11th April 2019

And more of the same this morning. It is a very nice 'same' but it doesn't give me much to report really. But I do have a few things I would like to mention this morning...
We are now into the 'Final Season' period and that means cheaper lift tickets again. Hurray! That means that you can get a Hirafu 5 hour ticket for 3,000 yen or a one day ticket for 3,400 yen (2,200 yen and 2,500 yen for junior high students and seniors; 1,600 yen and 2,000 yen for elementary school students).
Note that the Hirafu Gondola will only be operating on Saturdays, Sundays and from 27th April through 6th May.
Over at Annupuri, one day lift tickets are 3,400 yen for adults, 3000 yen for junior high students and 2,600 yen for elementary school students. And I believe that includes 1,000 yen for some lunch and an onsen hot spring entry discount ticket.

Rubbing my eyes this morning - it's still dumping and that's been the case for over 48 hours here!
Not much of a buildup at my place (700m) and somewhat heavy as yesterday's snow was wet. That said, I heard the whole top half of Tenjindaira was game on, proper pow, plenty of it, and nobody there.
Today's snow is better quality even down here and it's properly cold. The mountain is currently shut due to wind but my feeling is it opens up pretty soon. Read more ...

Good morning from Zao.
Well, we have been enjoying a real April revival here. Snow reported on 9th and now another 20+cm to report this morning. It's on the heavier side, but it's fresh snow and what's not to love about that.

Next report early in the week. Have a good weekend.

Shiga Kogen Now!
Thursday 11th April 2019, 10:07am
Good morning from Shiga Kogen.
Well, winter really isn't going quietly this season. More snow and cold. It sure doesn't feel like we are getting close to the middle of April.
This morning Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm of snow. Adding that to what we say yesterday and I am able to add 9cm to the report (since last report).
It is still snowing with less wind it seems than earlier on.
The roads have a cover of snow but it's not thick - still, I think lots of people will be glad if they kept their winter tyres on (and regretting it if they had swapped them over!)
More lifts to open for the weekend; plans are as below.
