Friday 11th April 2008, 9:03am
Weather conditions: Rain, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
This morning it's a wetter start than yesterday actually and it looks like we can only expect rain throughout the day. The wind has calmed down though after the sometimes very strong winds of yesterday, and both GALA and Kagura are open today if you want to get out there in the rain!

This weekend is the last for Kandatsu and Maiko (in nearby Minamiuonuma). Iwappara have also announced that this coming Sunday will be the last of the season, rather than continue on for another week.... the snow has been melting fast especially on lower slopes in the last week or so with more patches appearing.

So here's an update of closing dates:

13th APRIL:
Pine Ridge Resorts Kandatsu (2 quads and one pair)
Maiko (bowl area)
Iwappara (2 pair lifts)

6th MAY:
GALA Yuzawa
Kagura (Tashiro)

25th MAY:
Kagura (Mitsumata)

Come Monday, the choice will be GALA Yuzawa, Naeba and Kagura...   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud, light rain, fog
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The resorts are back open this morning as the winds are not as strong as they were yesterday morning, but it is still raining even higher up on the mountain according to the resorts.

There is a fair bit of fog and cloud on parts of the mountain so visibility will be variable up there depending on where you are. Down in front of the hotel at Naeba it's just cloudy at the moment with light spots of rain.

Dragondola should be back open for the weekend connecting Naeba with Tashiro.   Read more ...

New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a cloudy and wet day for most of yesterday, this morning it is cloudy and foggy higher up on the mountain where visibility seems to be something close to zero. Light spots of rain at the moment, but hopefully that will clear up soon as things are forecast to do that later in the day.

Currently just cloud is forecast for tomorrow with better weather lined up for Sunday.

For the weekend the Uenotaira Four lift should be opening up as well as the Skyline connecting lift, opening up more of the mountain.   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Friday 11th April 2008, 9:35am
Weather conditions: Cloudy with fog

Fast melting now as temps refuse to go below 0 anymore. This, coupled with today's light soaking rains, is doubling the speed of the melting process.

Sunny skies are sweeping in tomorrow morning in the Myoko area and sticking round until midday Sunday. But there's fog on the mountain this morning from last night's rains. Bring your heat and tree sensing goggles today.

Your Myoko area levels for today:
180cm (Akakura Kanko Resort);
170cm (Akakura Onsen);

Hakuba Now!

Friday 11th April 2008, 9:43am
Weather conditions: Sunny Skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well the rain has gone and left us with a beautiful sunny day here in Paradise. Most people are thinking about getting out on their Mountain Bikes and into their canoes and kayaks now as most of the snow in the valley has melted off and the river are starting to look runnable. There is now and will still be good spring skiing conditions mid mountain and up for almost a month yet. The last day of operation for Hakuba Goryu, Hakuba 47, Happo One and Tsugaike will be May 6th. It is always novel to go for a ski in your shorts on a May morning and then enjoy a picnic lunch underneath the blooming cherry trees before getting a good Mt. bike ride in or enjoying a relaxing afternoon on lake Aokiko. Yep it's that month of the year in Hakuba where you can enjoy all that Hakuba has to offer.

Take care if heading off piste or in the trees as there are open glide cracks in the snow, hollow sections that can collapse and wet snow avalanches on steep lines on any aspects. Those heading backcountry should be aware of also rockfall coming down from melting snow, rocks and trees on the snow surface and water flowing under the snow that can make crossing creeks and gullies potentially treacherous.

Avalanche Advisory:

Tree line: Low

Furano Now!

Friday 11th April 2008, 13:25pm
Weather conditions: raining, overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A rainy day today. The resort is still operational with top to bottom skiing on the Furano zone. There is not much activity on the mountain though. A token few dedicated Japanese guests enjoying the snow.

The forecast is for a fine weekend. The groomers have been harvesting snow from closed runs to fill in dirt patches appearing on the runs. So the groomed runs will be the pick over the weekend. With significant rainfall forecast for early next week, this could be the last weekend of top to bottom skiing in the Furano zone.   Read more ...
