Mostly clear blue skies, bits of cloud
An early report this morning. (Your reporter desperately wants to get out early on the skis this morning.)
After the snow, it's clearer blue skies this morning with just a little cloud here and there. Cold too!
Snow fell during the day yesterday, not as heavily as it had been by the afternoon, but I measured 12cm since morning by 5pm. There's no more to report this morning other than a slight dusting.
All the ski resorts should be open this morning and it's good to see the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa also getting back open and also the Gondola at Maiko.
Also good to see some official snow depths reaching 3m (though the actual snow that has fallen is more important than those numbers).
It should be a fine morning, with perhaps a little wind.
We might even get a little snow overnight, but watch the temperatures - hopefully it's going to keep low enough.

Fine, some cloud
There's some cloud but the sun is going to be shining this morning.
There's lots of fresh snow around after the heavy snowfall into yesterday (it got less so as the day went on).
Today should just be superb, and I'm excited. It is a very cold start to the day, so let's get wrapped up and enjoy it.
What more can I say?!

Morning from Madarao.
It's shaping up to be a great morning here. Some cloud still around after the snow-fest of yesterday; the resort is not reporting any fresh but I have some to report since writing yesterday. There's more than that in wind-swept places. Basically, lots of snow - we are doing well at the moment.
A very cold start to the day too.
Looks like there's going to be clearer skies rather than snow for the most part into next week now. As long as it keeps cold, should be good.
Monday is a national holiday in Japan so it's a long weekend upcoming.
The Madarao Kogen Fire Festival is on Saturday 12th January starting from 8:30pm.
Planned operations for Thursday 10th January 2019
Official snow depth at Madarao: 260cm
All lifts apart from Number 5 plan to be open 30 courses available including tree run courses (not Powder Wave)

Morning from Zao.
It's a cloudy early morning here in Zao, poor visibility once again especially in higher areas due to cloud/fog. Looking moody!
Hopefully if we don't get snow (which seems likely), we'll be getting clearer skies and better visibility over the coming few days. Would be nice to see the beautiful mountain scenery! We just want temps to remain low keeping good snow conditions.
Operation info from official sources:
- All lifts operating apart from the Karamatsu pair and Yokokura Number 2 pair lifts - All courses open

Blue sky, some cloud
Good morning everyone.
Taihen -- no cm of fresh snow to report! I was just looking back - the last time I wasn't able to report any fresh snowfall in a report was on 23rd December. Considering we are now on the 10th January. That really is impressive and I am suitably impressed. Unfortunately, that run has to end this morning as I cannot report any fresh cm to you this morning.
So while the mountain might be tracked and offer variable conditions today, especially after some very windy conditions last night in particular - noisy! - there's blue skies this morning and the sun is out in places; and casting shadows from behind clouds at times.
Maybe a bit of snow tonight into tomorrow but I wouldn't expect much. After that, more clearer skies likely so it does look like we are going to be having something of a break from that relentless snowfall.
At the start of the day all top lifts (apart from the Hanazono top lift) are on standby due to wind.
The Annupuri gondola is operating at reduced speed.
Keep an eye on that situation today.
Niseko Avalanche Report
Niseko base 6am: -3℃, no snowfall in 12 hours. Moiwa 800m: -7℃, SW4.6m/s, no new snow but snowdrifts have developed. Mikaeri data not available. Annupuri1150m: -7℃, no new snow but wind-packed snowdrifts are present in leeward slopes. Niseko Village Mizuno no sawa: -7℃, W7.3m/s, no new snow, snow depth 129cm. Hirafu Peak: -9℃m W15m/s with gusts, no new snow but snowdrifts have developed. Kutchan weather station: -0.8℃, snow depth 126cm. Benkei cape: N14m/s, Kamui cape: SW12m/s, 1011hPa, 2.7m waves.
A strong westerly wind without snowfall has sustained overnight. Cornices have grown big above 800m elevation due to this strong wind. Wind exposed ridges are crusty and icy and wind-packed snowdrifts have developed in some slope aspects. An unstable uneven layer that formed due to the wind and temperature changes has been observed 30cm under the surface. The avalanche risk is lowering, however slides caused by falling cornices and collapsing snowdrifts are still highly expected in leeward slopes above 800m elevation.
Gates’ opening is undetermined; please respect the ski patrol’s decision. There is no new snow and the mountain is mostly tracked out. Ride carefully. Do not enter strictly off-limits areas to seek fresh lines. A single track left under the rope would lead many others to follow it and increase the chances of accidents to happen. It’s not always perfect powder in Niseko, groomers are in excellent condition today.

Cloud, thin cloud, blue sky, sun
Good morning from Hakuba.
Brrrr, it's a very cold start to the morning.
No fresh snow to report overnight but there I have a bit to record since my report yesterday. I am not finding any reports of fresh snow from the ski resorts.
Things cleared up somewhat by the middle of the day yesterday with some blue sky appearing though some cloud remained.
Maybe some snow overnight tonight but beyond that we can probably expect some clearer weather over the upcoming long weekend (Monday is a national holiday). Next decent snow beyond that brewing up for around Tuesday, so let's keep an eye on that.
Photos today from Hakuba Happo-one (first two) and Hakuba Iwatake.

Sunny and cold after the big dump. After a big snow like that it almost seems like there's no more moisture left in the air to make clouds. Of which there are only a few right now.
It was really cold for Myoko, too; the outside thermometer read -9° earlier, but the sun is supposed to warm things up considerably during the day.
I hope it stays cold enough that the snow conditions remain good; OK, let's stick our collective neck out and predict that it will be a great day for getting out in the sun and sliding on great cold snow.
Well, there's some cloud around this morning - some patches of clearer sky earlier on, but generally now it is not as sunny-fine as we thought it might be. Perhaps it will get to be clearer... after the stormy conditions of yesterday it kind of feels like we deserve a bit of sun!
It's cold too this morning. Snow conditions should be really good.
The snow being reported here is what fell after my report yesterday morning. Wind was really blowing it around yesterday - there's some nice deep conditions to be found.
Take care and have fun.

Appi Kogen Now!
Thursday 10th January 2019, 9:20am
Good morning from Appi,
Extremely gusty conditions which started yesterday afternoon have stayed with us this morning. Very strong westerly winds are hampering operations on the mountain again with the gondola remaining closed at the present time. Unfortunately there may be no respite from the winds until late this evening and into tomorrow.
A favorable forecast may make things a lot better for the weekend with winds dying down and the sun paying us a visit on Saturday and Sunday. Not much to say in the snow department but at least the winds will be gone.
Even though the temperature has increased somewhat it’s going to be a very chilly day on the mountain so bundle up
