Another spring day out on the slopes of Tenjin today - blue skies with a couple of clouds around and warm temperatures. There is also a stiff breeze around but nothing to worry about. The forecast for the rest of the week is for warm temperatures with the possibility of rain on Wednesday and on Friday night. Other days should be warm and good spring snow.
Yesterday the forecasts seemed to get it all wrong. After that bright start we were expecting clear skies and warm but instead we got lots of grey and actually not that warm at all. After temps dipping to around +2 overnight, today does look more likely to be as per forecast - sun - with a high of around 13 degrees in Yuzawa.
Tomorrow we will probably get rain, and it might even get wet up on the top of Gala and Kagura as well. Following that more clearer conditions again from Thursday.

Thankfully things brightened up and clouds started to move on later in the day yesterday and this morning they all seem to have gone. Blue clear skies with a hazy kind of spring thing going on this morning over Hakuba. And it should get quite warm too today.
After dipping down to just under zero overnight in the village, a high of around +14C is forecast for later on this afternoon. There is just a slight northerly breeze early this morning and other than that it's just a nice spring morning really.
Tomorrow will probably bring some rain - on the mountains as well - but the skies should clear up again once we get into Thursday.

Clear blue skies
The winds of yesterday have gone and we are left with a clear morning with blue skies all around. It's fairly mild as well in the village and up top too with a temp. of -1C reported from the top station. There's not much else to report today really. We might see a bit of rain falling tomorrow but clearer again after that. It looks set to remain mild at least into the weekend though.

Clear and sunny
After the wild and not particularly nice conditions of yesterday, it's all change this morning. Clear blue skies over the resorts and much less of a wind. It's going to be a warm one today as well. Tomorrow we might see more rain in the village but fingers crossed that it might be snow higher up, it's going to be borderline though by the looks of things. Beyond that it seems there's a fair bit of clear skies lined up for Niseko into the weekend.
The conditions yesterday can't have done any good to the snow conditions but today should be a feel-good day out on the runs for those getting out there to enjoy them. All is quiet as well so now is a good time to enjoy an uncrowded Niseko!
Hanazono had it's last day of the season (or half day with the lifts closed in the morning due to weather conditions) yesterday and from today that area is now closed for the season. Lifts remaining operating are shown below.
Current lift operations (at time of writing, 10th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu & Hanazono: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola is now closed on weekdays but plans to be operating again on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
Official snow depths:
Grand Hirafu / Hanazono: Top - 415cm Bottom - 170cm
A clearer kind of clear this morning above Nozawa with blue skies all around. Right now it is around +5C in the village with a high of above 10C forecast for later in the day, so it's a warm spring morning here.
It does seem to be the case that rain is on it's way tomorrow and probably high up on Yamabiko as well. Clearer conditions after that though so hopefully it won't come down too much. What does seem for sure is the warm week should continue through into the weekend.
There are not many people at all out there on weekdays at the moment. If you can make it, it's a great time to come and enjoy a quiet Nozawa.

There is heavy cloud cover on the upper mountain this morning but this may lift as the morning progresses. It will be a warm day today, and at base it has already reached the predicted high of +7c which is a big change from the cold late season conditions that we have been experiencing lately. Snow conditions today will be soften as the cloud lifts. Read more ...
