The good weather continues much as it has been for the whole week. It is already a very warm 16 degrees in town with a high today of 23 degrees forecast for Yuzawa, so as you can imagine that snow line is continuing to creep up the mountains.

The weekend will be fine and sunny too with similar conditions - perhaps not quite as warm as today will be.

Two more days left at Kandatsu - from Monday we will be left just with Gala Yuzawa, Naeba and Kagura. Still no official word on Gala's closing day, but I have heard maybe one more week ( < not confirmed! )

Naeba Now!

Friday 10th April 2009, 9:54am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Weather wise it is once again very similar to previous days - sunny and warm. It is +4 degrees up at Kagura and will be rising to a fair bit higher than that during the day. No need for all that winter gear any more!

More of the same over the weekend too.

Lifts operating at Naeba today:

Prince No2 gondola
Takenokodaira romance (pair) lift
Daishamen romance (pair) lift

For the weekend, the top lift and the Dragondola (connecting Naeba with Tashiro) will be operating.

Most of the Kagura resort area remains open, but some (smaller) courses are now closed just on weekdays - so should be pretty much fully open tomorrow and Sunday.

Planned closing dates for Naeba and Kagura:

Naeba: May 6th
Tashiro area of Kagura: May 6th
Kagura Mitsumata (via Mitsumata Ropeway): May 24th

PLEASE NOTE:
We will continue to make updates to this Naeba Now! page a few times a week, but from now on until the end of the season at Kagura the daily reporting from the Yuzawa area of Niigata will move over to the Yuzawa Now! report section, so remember to check out that page as well for the latest.   Read more ...

It's the same story today with yet more blue skies, sun and warm temperatures - very warm and it doesn't look likely to cool down in the next few days too much with a fine weekend of weather forecast as well. Just a slight northerly breeze today. Should be a great weekend of spring riding.

Furano Now!

Friday 10th April 2009, 18:32pm
Weather conditions: Light overcast.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The town is abuzz with the sound of agricultural machinery waking up from a long slumber, as the ground has finally thawed enough to plow. Today was a comparitive scorcher with temps soaring to 15 degrees C in the town. Things were a little cooler on the mountain, with the weather mostly hazy or lightly cloudy and not getting a lot of direct sun.

The runs which are open on the Furano Zone are still skiing very well, and with 1.5 meters of snow base reported, we can look forward a long spring ride out. Kitanomine, which closes earlier due to getting more sun and less snow, has finally "burned through" after being ungroomed for 12 days.

Rather strong winds this afternoon made it a bit rocky on the Ropeway, but all lifts kept operating according to schedule.

Tomorrow's forecast is a bit cooler but more sun. Should be a very nice weekend for spring skiing overall with a lot of sun forecast Sunday as well.   Read more ...
