Snow came in heavily yesterday afternoon dropping 5-10cm in only a couple of hours. Down low it was quite wet snow but hey getting snow at this time of the year is all just a bonus. A few light snow showers continued overnight into this morning and a few more can be expected later today.

Overall it's been a great March with very close to average snowfalls and some of the best skiing of the season during the last week. From April 6th the Niseko Village and Hanazono ski areas will be closing. Niseko Village though plans to reopen for Golden Week. Hirafu and Annupuri ski areas will remain open till the end of Golden Week but may run a reduced number of lifts especially during mid week.

Quite a number of bars and restaurants around the village have already or will soon close for the season. Tonight will be the last day of night skiing in Hirafu and also the last night of the free bus into Kutchan. The free village shuttle bus will cease operating on 4 April and the Hanazono shuttle on 5 April. Things really wind down in April until Golden Week where the village comes alive again for the final week of the season.

If you're thinking of coming up over the next few weeks you can be assured there'll be plenty of snow still on the slopes and very few other people to share them with. The weather will warm up and the snow will become very springlike. It'll be a great time to be here though with leisurely days spent in the sun working on your goggle tan.

Bottom - 145cm

Niseko Village:
