There's a mix of conditions here this morning. After the fog and the reveal of some fresh snow yesterday, this morning it has been a mix of cloud, some breaks in the cloud and blue sky, but some light snow being reported on the upper areas of mountain with sleet in other areas.

I am also hearing that on the coast of northern Hokkaido it is actually snowing down to sea level and up to 5cm on the ground. That's a fair distance from here of course, but remember... it's May! Conditions are of course very spring, but fantastic when you take a look at the calendar.

Well this morning the wind is preventing the top lifts at all three resort areas to open. The Niseko Gondola at Niseko Village is also not operating meaning that resort area is not open (yet) this morning.

Tomorrow of course is a national holiday as we enter the last four days of the official season in Niseko. It should stay quite chilly and we might well get to see another sprinkling of snow on the mountain.

One more thing to mention, the snowfall recorded by the JMA in Kutchan town for April 2013 was 27cm. The previous two seasons that number was 30cm and 24cm, and so around what you might expect.
