Good morning from Niseko.

It is cloudy this morning but some blue sky and sun (perhaps more as the morning goes on) and also there is a little more snowfall to report as well.

Should be a fine day I reckon.

There will be a 'Spring Fireworks' display at Niseko Grand Hirafu (lower part of the Sennoki course) from 7pm on Saturday evening. I like fireworks.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6am: -4℃, slight snowfall. Moiwa800m: -6.8℃, WNW5.86m/s. Annupuri1000m: -10.3℃, W5.4m/s, 250cm snow depth. Hirafu1000m: -10.0℃, N5.3m/s. Kutchan weather station: -6.8℃, ENE1.3m/s, 89cm snow depth. Benkei cape: N11m/s, Kamui cape: NNE3m/s, 1014hPa, 1.3m waves.

The atmospheric pressure gradient is shelving and the wind is calming down. The temperature remains low and snow depth in high elevation stays. The avalanche risk is moderately high during the morning. 25cm or thinner surface slab avalanches are to be expected in leeward 40° slopes around 1000m elevation. Sun and temperature may affect the slabs and result in a wide range simultaneous slide. Cracks, up to 3m depth, are hidden under the new snow, beware as they are difficult to see from above.

Glide avalanche risk from 1000m elevation is still low, however it is strongly recommended to stay away of the valley bottoms. Thaw at the base of the mountain will progress, beware of collapsing snow-bridges. All gates are scheduled to open. Be well prepared and ask the ski patrol’s advice before stepping our of bounds. New snow is shallow but good. Have a great day.
