The colder air started moving through after midday yesterday and there was a bit of nice snow falling in the afternoon. It didn't last long though and it cleared in the evening and there was no snow overnight. This morning thankfully it is back and currently it is snowing heavily. Hopefully this will continue for much of the day.
Obviously it's not real deep out there yet but conditions will improve rapidly if the snow keeps falling as heavily as it is currently.
The forecast is still looking great with some very cold air and big snowfalls coming through especially from Sunday night onwards. The winds look like they'll pick up again though as well.
The first of the pack ice flowing down out of Sea of Okhotsk appears to be reaching the coast of northern Hokkaido. With a NW airflow set to predominate over the next couple of weeks the whole northern coastline should become icebound. You can go on icebreaker cruises out into the ice from a couple of northern towns which I reckon would be very cool.
The Sapporo and Otaru Ice Festivals are also starting soon which are must sees if you haven't done so previously. Both are easy day tours from Niseko.

Niseko Avalanche Info No.45

Moiwa base 6am: 0℃, no new snowfall, cloudy.
Coastal data: W13m/s at Benkei cape, W17m/s, 1.4m waves and 999hp at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: S8.5m/s at 6am, predicted to pick up to W15m/s at noon.
According to data analysis and observation, the general avalanche risk is relatively low today.

10cm wind-slabs are present in Higashi-one’s steep slopes. Be careful.
Peak gates will open at 9:30.
Precise reasoning and correct judgment is required from everybody stepping out of bounds.
Think again of the potential risks before your descent.
Appropriate observation is not to cling to one aspect of the phenomenon, but to wholly watch the bigger picture.
Beware of sudden weather changes.
