It's not quite as cold this morning and only 5cm or so of snow to report since my last report. The sun is out. Yes, it's one of those days in Niseko. The skies have cleared and we are being treated to beautiful views of the surroundings and a lovely contrast of the blue on the white. Time to get out there and enjoy those things for a change.

All operations on the lift open as normal. It looks like the Country Road lift at Niseko Village will be moving today from 10am (first time this season?) no doubt helping out with more and more people on the mountain.

New Year is just around the corner now and so it's going to be another very lively few days. Hope you got your reservations in the restauraunts sorted out otherwise you will be out of luck. Actually, that applies for lots of days now here in Niseko! Luckily there's a good choice of fine places to dine and so it's usually worth it.

Just going back to the forecast for the next few days. Tomorrow is going to be a mild one. Even a chance of rain (noooo!), but it should soon be snowing again and from Monday temperatures set to drop back to where they should be once again.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko base 6am: -6C, no snowfall and calm. Coastal data: NE8m/s at Benkei cape and ESE3m/s, 1.4m waves and 1025hPa at Kamui cape. Predicted wind at 1500m: SE15m/s.

No snowclouds are presently generating any snowfall and the development of snowdrifts has ceased. The Dec 26-27th snowfall has made cornices develop up to 300cm in Annupuri west-face around 800m altitude and newly formed snowdrifts reached depth of up to 150cm in leeward 1100m area. According to various data and observations, the slabs are stabilizing and the general avalanche risk is low. Today’s surface will form a notable Dec 28th layer in the future snowpack.

Although yesterday's tracks remain, the snow is good from peak to bottom. The groomers are also in excellent condition this morning. Be careful to remain in controllable speed and not to hit trees.

Although the overall hazard is lowering, avalanche risk is still to be highly considered in south facing steep slopes below 800m, namely Harunotaki and other strictly off-limits areas. Respect the Niseko Rules and stay away from those areas.

Gates 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 are scheduled to open at 9:30. Ask the ski patrols advice and step out of the gates. Do you have your avy-beacon switched on?
