Good morning all.

No fresh snowfall to report to you this morning folks.

It was a busy weekend out there and so conditions are going to be far from perfect this morning and somewhat tracked out. As with most things, we've got to have a bit of 'far from perfect' in order to be able to appreciate the good and great. (Though not too much please...!)

A grey and cloudy morning with fog being reported by Annupuri early on.

Happily it should be snowing sometime during the day today (actually it looks like it might already have started snowing lightly in places), and then again from later on Wednesday.

I don't feel there is much else to report today.

Oh yes...

---

Obviously, many of us are no doubt going to still be feeling heartbroken this morning at the big news yesterday that 'idol group' Arashi will be stopping being Arashi... at the end of next year.

(!!!!!!).

But chin up, let's just be thankful for all the lovely meaningful songs they have given us. Not to mention the silly costumes, cool dance routines and 'smouldering' looks delivered for camera on finishing said song and routine. But hold on... they're still here until the end of next year?!? Phew. So, nearly two more years of Arashi then.

'Arashi' means storm. So hopefully we'll be up for another one of those depositing lots of fresh snow on us fairly soon.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain Base 6.00am: -4.5°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -6.2°, E1.8m/s, no new snow, good visibility. Mikaeri Weather Station: minor snow drift development, calm. Annupuri 1120m: snowpack 200cm. Hirafu Peak: -11°, N10-12m/s. Kutchan Weather Station: -5.9°, snow depth 151cm, no new snow. Suttsu Weather Station: -0.9°, snow depth 48cm. Coastal data: Benkei Cape:S4m/s. Kamui Cape: S11m/s, pressure 1009hPa,wave 1.4m.

The atmospheric pressure gradient is shallow ahead of a low pressure front. Sea and mountains are calm, but above 1200m a northerly wind has started pick up. There has been no new snow and the snowpack has stabilised. General avalanche risk is low. Expect low pressure snowfall and a sudden change in weather today. Be careful if low pressure snow fall exceeds 20cm , a surface avalanche can easily occur. Although the speed of this type of avalanche is less than 80kmh, it will be heavy and dangerous. Following the low pressure front a strengthening typical winter weather pattern is forecast to develop, causing snowdrift development and increased avalanche risk. All gates are expected to be open. There has been no new snow and the mountain is all tracked out, be careful riding. The groomer's are in good shape. Lately there have been increased numbers of people climbing the mountain at dawn. Be careful of the grooming machines, they cant see you easily, wear a headlamp. Have a good day.
