Looks like we got some snow again last night. Another 10cm of snow will only add to the cushions out there. We are expecting some high winds today and cooler temps. It's definitely not going to be a skiing in bikinis and boardshorts day to say the least. There is a chance that things will clear up somewhat as the day goes on and we might even get some blue skies on view this afternoon.

It looks like we have some more snow coming. Details are a bit sketchy at the moment - it doesn't look like it is going to be a massive storm, but it should bring about a good amount of snow to fill in some of the tracks that were left from the past few days.

We are on the latter part of the Chinese New Year now and so it should be another busy peak season weekend.

The backbowls still are going to remain closed due to high winds. It has been a few days now since they have opened. Tomorrow, if they open, will be an awesome one to get out there and get some of the fresh powder for yourself. With the high winds and recent storm snow comes higher avalanche danger. If you do venture out please bring the proper equipment and go with a buddy. There are still some layers from the really warm 3 day period we had previously. Everything is stabilizing fairly well, but there are still dangers in areas (especially those that haven't been skied much).

There is still plenty of snow out there, have fun and get some fresh tracks for yourself!

Niseko base 6am: -10℃ at 6am, 10cm of broken crystals in the last 12 hours.
[Coastal data]: Benkei cape wind NW13m/s , Kamui cape waves 1.4m and pressure 1013hPa.
Annupuri peak: NW17.5m/s and -18.1℃
[Risk Assessment]: Intermittent snowfall, Snow clouds are flowing into the Shakotan area and the snowfall has temporarily eased in the Niseko area. From 800m elevations snowdrifts are slowly developing, above 1100m cornices and snowdrifts are rapidly developing
Snow Pit Data: A 40cm soft slab at the surface weakly bonded to the 26 Jan layer. There is a weak layer from 22 Jan at 108cm.
[Risk Assessment]: Coordinates H9 to B9, H2, C4, especially around backbowl sidewalls at elevations between 900-1200m, O-Sawa at elevations around 800-900m the possibility of a 60cm avalanche continues. Also in the strictly of limits area Haru no Taki (coordinates J4) there is increasing risk of a 100cm surface fracture.
[Caution]: The trees and ridgelines are better today. Be careful entering the valley bottoms, they are difficult to get out of without snowshoes and poles at the moment . Entering the Anbestu area (coordinates A4) is dangerous because of the same reasons. Once you pass through the gates you are not in the resort anymore. Is your beacon switched on??
[Gates]: Gates 2 and 3 will be closed today due to high winds above 1100m. Please respect the ski patrols decisions.
