Throughout yesterday the storm raged and it was a very brave soul who ventured up onto the hill. Overnight though the winds turned more Westerly, the temperature started increasing, the snow eased and the winds died down somewhat. The milder temps will be with us through into tomorrow before much cooler air returns on Friday.
This morning there's been snow falling again and temperatures are a little below freezing at village level. Not a whole lot of snow forecast for today though. Still currently all but the very highest lifts are running allowing access to slopes that were untouched during the storm. So if you're not feeling too poorly after the Australia Day celebrations it'd be well worth getting up there today.
Tomorrow night should see snow return and then remain throughout the outlook period with temperatures remaining cold.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.43

Moiwa base 6am: -6℃, slight overnight snowfall.
Coastal data: WNW16m/s at Benkei cape, WSW 15m/s, 2.7m waves and 1016hp at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: WSW 11.7m/s at 6am.
The snowdrifts developed in the past 36 hours are now starting to stabilized.
The avalanche risk is lowering in 800m areas.
However stabilization is delayed in 1100m areas as newly formed snowdrifts due to windblown snow has developed overnight.
Relatively high avalanche hazard is still to be considered in Higashi-one, Osawa and Backbowl’s cornice and leeward slopes.
2 notable layers, Jan 22nd and 25th, can be observed in the snow profile.
The wind is picking up again above 1000m, the top lifts operations are yet to be decided.
Gates 2, 3 and 4 will be closed.
Gate 6 is scheduled to open at 10:30.
Outside the gate is uncontrolled unsupervised area. The snow condition is variable due to high wind effect, be careful not to loose control and hitting trees.
Always remember the possibilities of avalanches before starting the descent.
