And friendly greetings to you all on this Sunday morning.

No new cm of snow to report - just light dustings really that don't amount to much. It is a cold morning down to -8C and calm as well so I expect the resorts to all be open as planned.

Snow is forecast for today. And tomorrow. And the day after. And it does look quite promising... though winds may become an issue too. I will of course let you know how things are progressing tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed everyone.

There really isn't much else to report this morning so I'll leave it at that and let you get on with your day!

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: -11℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m:-12℃, no snowfall. Annupuri1150m: -12℃, NE10m/s, no snowfall. Hirafu1250m: -13℃, mild wind, no snowfall, no snowdrifts. Kamui cape lighthouse: S3m/s, 1015hPa, 0.7m waves.

The next low-pressure system is approaching but the isobars are spaced out for the moment and the weather is calm. South-easterly wind will start picking up and snow will start to fall as the system approaches. Peak gates will open in the morning, however might close as the weather deteriorates. Accidents often happen during storms. 18+m/s storm generates fast deposit of snowdrifts in leeward slopes which become highly prone to slide. Surface slab avalanches are caused as those storm affected snowdrifts collapse. According to observations, potential trigger layer will be the layer which will sit in between today’s surface layer or the coming pre-low pressure snowfall, and the fast developing snowdrift slabs that are forecasted to come. The hazard level will depend on the slope’s orientation and elevation, however no matter the layers’ configurations, a fast developing snowdrift slab is a prominent red flag. Keep an eye on the coming snowfall and weather transition.

The snow quality stays relatively good as the temperature difference stays small.

Powder snow can still be found if you're willing to walk and look for it.

Ducking ropes is strictly restricted in Niseko. Please respect the Niseko Rules.
