The snow finally did come yesterday and it continued right through into the evening dropping at least 20cm of pretty good quality powder. It fined up a bit overnight but this morning it's back and currently there is a band of heavy precipitation on not too far to our west that is expected to pass over the area in an hour or so. There's actually a thunderstorm warning issued for the region. It's a bit colder today and the new snow has freshened up all slopes around the mountain. There should be some great turns to be had out there today. Winds up high are reasonably strong though and currently all the top lifts around the mountain are still closed.
The snowfalls should continue on and off through most of the weekend and through until around Tuesday. Still some very mild air and possible heavy rain expected later next week. The forecast models are still not all in agreement of exactly what will occur though and I'm hopeful it isn't too bad. Snowfalls and cooler weather will follow any rain though.
I'm heading away tonight and won't be back until later tomorrow. I won't have access to a computer so the report won't be up until fairly late in the day.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.67

Moiwa base 6am: -6℃, 20cm of snowfall due to a passing low.
Coastal data: S3m/s at Benkei cape, SW9m/s, 1.3m waves and 1008hPa at Kamui cape.
The wind off-shore topped WNW16m/s at midnight, WNW25.5m/s at 22:00 with temporary stronger gusts at the peak of Annupuri. The wind has calmed down to WSW7m/s (6am) at the peak.
Hirafu patrol 7am peak report: -13℃, S5m/s, mild conditions.
Repetitive snowfall has continued and made some 40cm heavy slabs around 1000m. Those slabs are now stable, however the wind & snow is predicted to pick up from 11:00, which will make the avalanche hazard to rise again.
Refrain from dropping into steep cornice/knoll slopes such as in the Backbowl.
Avalanche accidents usually happen in snowdrift slopes developed by storms.
The snow in the trees around 800m has been reset and is in good condition.
Peak gates will open at 9:30, however may close depending on the future weather conditions.
Do not duck ropes, step out of bounds through the gates.
Do you have your beacon switched on?
