Hello and good morning.

Yesterday was an excellent day in Niseko with wonderful conditions being enjoyed out there.

After the bumper snow that I reported yesterday I wasn't quite expecting to be reporting similar this morning. But that's the way it is, with another 35cm of fresh snow to report this morning.

We have well and truly busted through the 4m mark of total snowfall here in the village. Let's see how far we can go this December... can we beat last year?

Snow conditions yesterday were brilliant. And they will possibly be better today. If such things are possible, of course. ;)

Variable winds by the looks of things on the mountain this morning though not much here in the village. The resorts are reporting winds between 1m/s (Hirafu base) and 17m/s (Annupuri top). Lifts seem to be operating mostly as normal though the top two lifts at Hanazono were operating at a reduced speed early on.

So the forecast is looking promising as well with basically snow lined up daily in the coming week. Things may get less cold tomorrow and Saturday, but other than that it's just snow and more snow really.

Did I mention it was still snowing?

Enjoy!

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Base:-6C, 30cm of fresh snow without snowdrift development and still snowing. Coastal wind: NW15m/s. 800m altitude status: W12m/s, -12C and moderate wind and snowfall.

Soft slabs of up to 100cm are developing on top of Dec 17th layer, notably in leeward side of ridgeline below 1000m, knolls and open steep slopes. Such slopes with heavy snow load are likely to slide anytime today.

Avalanches slide all the way to the bottom of the valleys and runs even further along the bottom creek line. Do not stop & rest in valley bottoms. The snow in the trees is deep and light, be careful not to get stuck in gentle slopes. Top chair lifts operations will be delayed due to deep snow.

Gates 1 & 4 will be closed, gate 6 is yet to be decided. Risk of a large avalanche is to be highly considered in Haru no Taki area. Do not enter strictly off-limits areas for any reasons. One track left under the rope will lead many others to do the same and increase the chances of severe accidents to happen. Always use gates to step out of bounds. Have a safe day.
