Because Switzerland's St Moritz is the sister city/resort of Niseko, alpenhorns can be heard playing in Hirafu a 6am and 6pm each day. Well it seemed last night that the alpine overlord himself, Heinrich Von Dumpenhousen, was here to play because right on six the heavens opened up releasing copious amounts of the light, dry white stuff.

It even cleared slightly this morning and those getting first tracks would have done so with sunlight gleaming off the new snow. It's mostly cloudy and snowing again currently though. We had about another 50cm of snow overnight and in places it may actually almost be getting too deep out there if that's possible. You certainly don't want to find yourself stopped on a flat section off-piste or you'll be attempting to swim your way out.

It appears the Hirafu guys couldn't be bothered updating snowdepths this morning as they are unchanged from yesterday currently but who can blame them? They're probably up to their armpits getting first tracks off Super Ridge. I'm pretty sure it will have smashed through the 2m mark up top though.

The King #4 lift has opened for the first time this season and although the summit gates won't be opened just yet this still gives you access to some previously untouched terrain.

Overall epic conditions out there for so early in the season. Even the gods themselves are probably considering taking on mortal flesh to come and enjoy all this goodness. If you're not here now, well you should be!
