It was obvious from the pure tones of the alpenhorns this morning that the alpine overlord himself, Henrich von Dumpenhausen, was back in town ushering in some of the heaviest snowfalls of the season so far. Overnight to 6am we had around 45cm fall but it's only got heavier since then and there's been at least another 25cm through the morning and it's still duming out there.
I started the morning once again over in Hanazono and due to the upper lifts being on wind hold the slopes were almost deserted. A few runs through Blueberry's and Strawberry's with fresh tracks each run was a great way to start the day. It was getting deeper and deeper with each run and tracks were filling back in very quickly. Finished the morning by heading down Waterfall to get back to Hirafu and the snow there, little affected by the wind, was incredibly light and deep.
The winds have eased a little this afternoon and all but the very top lifts are now open. Most higher gates though will remain closed to avalanche danger. There's been a huge amount of drifting and lee slopes are very loaded up and unstable.
It's remained very cold with temperatures at village level hovering around -9 and up higher -15. The snow and winds are expected to ease a little tonight so tomorrow is set to be another awesome day up there.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 270
Bottom - 170

Niseko Village:
Top - 290
Bottom - 170

Top - 260
Bottom - 180

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.32

Moiwa base 6am: -10℃, 45cm of highly wind effected snow, consisting of broken particles, amorphous crystals and graupel.
Coastal data: 18m/s NW at Benkei cape, 13m/s NNW, 3m waves and 1017hp at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: NNW 28.3m/s at 6am.
Mizuno no sawa knoll wind: 18m/s NW, -15℃.
The atmospheric pressure gradient is steep and the snow storm is persisting in Shiribeshi area.
The cornices and snowdrifts in 1000m areas are drastically developing. Avalanche risk is extreme today.
All peak gates, including no. 6 (Moiwa) will be kept closed.
Do not traverse across to the cornice slopes of Annupuri Osawa from the gondola station.
The mountain is in an extremely dangerous condition today. Slabs that has developed suddenly due to the storm may collapse and slide with the slightest stimulation.
Too many lost people cases are happening in Moiwa/Ambetsu slope. These distresses come from pure ignorance and disregard of the Niseko Rules. Search and rescue are operated according to the same Rules.
Read and acknowledge the Rules before you step out of bounds.
Deep conditions continuing today.
