The system started moving through yesterday afternoon and at first ahead of the warm front the precipitation was a reasonable amount of wet snow. After about 9pm though the temp jumped up after the passage of the front and the rain started. Overall though the rain has not been that heavy but temperatures have remained very mild and it's currently up around 5 degrees at the base of the mountain. The effect on the snowpack so far has been minimal with only a 5cm drop in depth even down in Kutchan. In fact up higher on the mountain where the precipitation has remained mostly snow there's been a little increase.
In the next few hours the winds should turn around more northerly and the temp will start to drop and get well below freezing tonight with snowfalls. Very strong winds accompanied this system today only a few lower lifts are currently able to operate.
So overall it's been a bit of a relief to get through the storm relatively unscathed when you consider how much rain had been forecast by Snow-forecast.com. For the remainder of the week the low will slowly move NE and maintain cold and snowy weather over the region.
