Yesterday was a really great in-bounds day. It was a bit hard to find anything fresh but the snow was still soft and fun. The peak gates are expected to open today and the snow should be great back there. Just make sure to take caution with all the wind activity that has been happening and be prepared for anything. Avy gear should be considered a necessity for adventuring out today.

Looks like we are seeing another low pressure system move in which could mean a couple more days of snow and then some sun and visibility by Sunday. We should have a snowy weekend and after that the snow will mellow out a little bit compared to what it has been.

Everyone have a great day and be safe!

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: -5℃, 15cm of broken crystal snow in the past 12 hours. Coastal data: NW10m/s at Benkei cape, 1.4m waves and 1012hPa at Kamui cape. Annupuri peak wind: NW10.3m/s.
A strong westerly wind with snow has persisted above 800m between 8am and 3pm yesterday, making snowdrifts develop drastically in areas above 700m within coordinate B9H9I2 and B2. Broken crystal snow, typical of pre-low pressure system snowfall, is mixed in the snowpack and the bonding within the snow is weak. Weak lines within Jan 12th slab could easily trigger slides today. The snowdrifts’ development has slowed down this morning. The snow is a bit heavy and slow.
Avalanche risk remains HIGH in the following areas: around E6F5 in O-sawa areas, entire Backbowl area and G7 Higashi-One’s steep slopes area.
Peak gates are scheduled to open at 9:30.
Out of bounds riding involves greater responsibility. Remember that outside the gates is not outside resorts’ management and responsibilities.
Traversing (cutting sideways) knolls and under cornices is like deliberately trying to trigger an avalanche. Stay away from valley bottoms as avalanches run through there.
