This morning it looks like the winds have passed. The sun is trying to peak out and it should warm up a little. All the windblown snow will be sitting in patches waiting for friendly skiers and snowboarders to take advantage. Please note the stability warning from last night as it will be serious again today.

The next couple days are looking clear and warmer. With all the snow we have had it will be awesome almost anywhere in the Niseko area except the very peaks of places which will be hard and wind blown. Gulleys will have lots of snow. If they do open some of the gates today proceed with caution but it shouldn't be much of an issue on skied areas. The danger lies on cornices and bowls with little skiing having been wind loaded on weak layers.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6am: -8C, 20cm of snow in the last 12 hours. 35cm in the last 24 hours. Snow crystals and snow drift development
Japan Sea: Benkei Cape WNW 150m/s, Kamui Cape wave 2.5m, pressure 1023 hpa, Annupuri Peak WNW 15.2m/s, temp -16C,
At 800m elevation snowdrift development has been extensive.
Snowfall: A strong westerly wind continued through yesterday along with rapid cornice and snowdrift development. At 800m elevation the snow drift development has been 80cm in the last 12 hours, in some places 200cm.
Snow Pit Data: The wind slab created in the last 24 hours is weak and unstable, and could fracture easily at a deep level. Below 80cm the snowpack is compacted. Snowfall continues.
Hazard Evaluation: The snow drifts are unstable and a long running fracture ,80cm-120cm depth, could easily occur causing a large scale avalanche. From snowfall data, coordinates C4D5(Moiwa, Mikaeri Bowl), E6(Back Bowl), F5(O-Sawa cornice face), G7H8(Higashi One) avalanche risk is HIGH.
Gates: Peak Gates 2&3 will be closed today.
Caution: Dont duck ropes and enter off limit areas. Avalanches have occurred in the H8( Higashi One ) from people riding in the area. When the peak gates are closed, traversing from gate No5(Fujiwara) to Higashi One area(G7H8) or traversing from gate No1 to the O-Sawa cornice slopes(F5) is very dangerous. This WILL cause an accident.
Have a safe day
