Rain.

When it rains, I sometimes even look back on those strong winds that I dislike so much with some sort of affection.

Yes, it's a wet morning here and from what I can tell it is wet in large parts of Japan this morning. Unseasonably mild weather all round at the moment it seems.

There's a chance that upper elevations may be seeing sleet or wet snow up there, though Niseko Grand Hirafu are reporting rain at summit as of 8am.

Clearer skies are forecast for over the weekend and into early next week and it should be getting colder again, with the next snowfall expected by Wednesday.

---

Night floodlit skiing and snowboarding is scheduled to begin from tomorrow evening. Fantastic when snow conditions are right - though not sure that I would be too keen on it today though! But anyway, let's nighta.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base: +3℃, mild wind and raining. Coastal data: Benkei cape NE9m/s, Kaui cape ENE3m/s, 1011hPa, 0.7m waves.

Thaw continues and slides from the sasa bamboo/ground level are to be considered in south facing slopes with snowdrift around 800m altitude.
Those slides can be devastating even small scale, better stay away from steep slopes under the chairlifts. The wind is predicted to pick up as the pressure pattern shifts, however lot of snowfall cannot be expected.
