Hello.

It is a beautiful clear morning here in Niseko and it has been since I first looked at 7am. Clear blue skies and sunshine. Feeling colder this morning.

I need to get my report up early this morning and so I am glad that it is a simple one. I imagine everywhere will be open as normal.

See you tomorrow!

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6am: -5℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m: -7.4℃, ENE8.55m/s, no snowfall. Annupuri1120m: 250cm snow depth, 1100m: -10.1℃, ENE7.1m/s. Hirafu peak: high winds, -11℃, 1000m: -9.8℃, N8.8m/s. Mizuno no Sawa: -8.73℃, N10.7m/s, 134cm snow depth at base. Kutchan weather station: -4.9℃, NNW0.5m/s, 127cm snow depth. Benkei cape: ENE8m/s, Kamui cape: E3m/s, 1012hPa, 0.8m waves.

A cold air mass has flowed in and the mountain has frozen. Some shallow snowdrifts have been observed in leeward slopes under 800m elevation. It may not be deep, but few turns on fresh snow can be found. Some shallow slides are to be expected in steep slopes. Sudden temperature changes or rain can penetrate to the ground through the open cracks and could become the trigger to a glide avalanche. Conservative thinking is key to stay safe in the mountains. Stay away from valley bottoms to minimize hazards. Snow can still be found in plenty loads. Have a great day.
