Good morning from Niseko and the sun is out right now.

Light snow was falling just a little earlier but it's cleared now. No new cm of snow to report on the ground here, just a dusting really, though I suspect there might be a bit more higher up. There is less wind this morning as well thankfully and so with lifts planning to be open I think there'll be a rush to the top areas to hit the untouched snow after the lift disruption of yesterday.

It feels colder this morning and temperatures will probably rise to just over zero at base today. As of 7:30am, Niseko Village was reporting a temperature of -10C on upper areas so we still need to wrap up.

So still quite a bit of cloud around, but blue sky too and the sun making an appearance.

Generally cloudy conditions forecast for tomorrow and a chance of sunny skies on Sunday. The next potentially decent snow looks to be due early in the week.

Have a good day and stay safe.

I have just added this information below... night skiing will be continuing through until Sunday 22nd March so just another few weeks left. On the last night Hirafu plan to have an excite fireworks display starting at 9:30pm.

They are also of course keen to remind people that daytime operations plan to continue until Wednesday 6th May. You might well wonder why the last day will be a Wednesday - the reason being, it's the last day of the Golden Week holidays in Japan.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: -5C, no snowfall. Moiwa 800m: light breeze and light snowfall, -7C. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 325cm. Hirafu 1000m: light breeze, light snow, -7C. Annupuri Peak: W2.4m/s, -8.3C. Benkei cape: light breeze, Kamui cape: SSE4m/s, 1024hPa, 0.8m waves.

The mountains and the ocean are calm under a dominating high-pressure system. The snowdrifts are stable and the general avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to open from the morning. Be well prepared when going out of bounds. Many hazards are present in the winter mountains. Better not overestimate your own skills and knowledge, constantly staying alert and cautious is key to accident prevention. Sometime experiences are useless, but lots of experiences are needed to acknowledge this fact. Devastating full-depth avalanche hazard is rising. These gigantic slides will sweep everything on its path: the valley bottoms. Better stay away from there. Avalanches are natural occurrences and won’t be an accident unless human beings are involved. The snow is not bad, have a nice day.
