The snow that failed to materialise on Tuesday night finally hit the region yesterday. Good snowfalls occurred through much of the day although it did clear a little in the afternoon allowing people to enjoy the fresh in sunshine. In the evening a bit more light snow continued and we've ended up with around 20cm falling since last report. Today has dawned mostly clear with some incresing high cloud and little wind.
We've now had close to half a metre of new snow on top of the icy base and except for exposed areas conditions are pretty good out there at the moment.
Today has got a little mild and slightly above freezing at village level ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Snow is expected from this system starting in the early hours of tomorrow morning and continuing through tomorrow. Still little snow expected over the weekend but next week is looking good with sustained cold temps and snow.

Avalanche Information:
(Information as of this morning)

Niseko Avalanche Info No.79

Moiwa base -5℃, slight snowfall early this morning. 20cm of overall snowfall in the past 24hours.
Coastal data: SSW2m/s at Benkei cape, SW10m/s, 1.3m waves 1026hPa at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak: SSW5.9m/s, topped NNW23.9m/s at 7pm last night, predicted to blow at SSE10m/s at noon.
A moderate storm has persisted yesterday and has left snowdrifts of up to 50cm on top of the Feb 27th layer.
This new layer has now turned into a slab and easily collapsible soft cornices have developed.
The snow above 1100m got blown away in slopes exposed to the wind and hard crust surface is left behind.
According to the snowfall transition and data evaluations, the slabs are now starting to stabilize and the avalanche hazard is lowering.
Peak gates are scheduled to open at 10:00.
The snow got better, however is hiding many potentially dangerous features just underneath it.
Refrain from traversing 1000m slopes in Osawa, Backbowl, Higashi-one steeps and knolls. It could easily trigger a slide by cutting the slope sideways, keep ample space between skiers and ski the fall line.
Avoid the gully bottoms, escape to safety zones before you reach the very bottom.
The resorts are always concerned about the safety of all resort users.
