People going to Kagura today are in for a real treat.

The snow was faling yesterday - on and off as it happens - and it must have been snowing a fair bit overnight because the resort this morning is reporting... get this... 30-60cm of fresh snow since yesterday! I would guess it means a maximum of 60cm up top in places as I can't quite imagine that much falling in many places. Down at town level that is more like 15-20cm. But whatever, it's good news and there is going to be a lot of fresh powder up there today. There will be some big smiling faces up there today.

What's more, the clouds are quickly moving on leaving us with predominantly sunny blue skies. It is a cold morning though and Kagura reporting -9 degrees at the top.

There are some fairly strong winds at the top of Kagura this morning and the No 1 quad is not going to be open early on - from Mitsumata the resort will be open up until the Kagura No1 pair lift. Over at Tashiro, that will be open until the Tashiro No6 lift. If and when the winds calm down the resort says that it will open the resort up more and let people get to that new snow!

From Saturday, the Kagura Mitsumata Sunrise Ski will start - basically meaning that the Ropeway will open earlier to let people get to the best snow conditions earlier in the day. It will run from 7am on Saturdays and holidays during the period from Saturday 3rd April until Wednesday 5th May. On those days, the lifts operating early on will be the Mitsumata Ropeway, Mitsumata No1 quad lift, Kagura Gondola and the Kagura No1 quad lift.

Please note that the resorts have not updated their official snow depths, so there is no change in those numbers below.
