Red sun in morning....sailors might take warning, but we're looking ahead toward some good snow ahead. I was up in the mountains early this morning (hence a delayed report), and we could watch the barometer fall and the first flakes start falling. Now, just before 5, winds have become to rush down Mt. Myoko, and the peaks are covered in white.

The local forecasts are for blizzard-like conditions in the morning, and it has that feel right now. I'll post early in the morning, so if the winds are high and the lifts look likely to close, you'll have a heads-up.

Backcountry: lots of layers in the snow, but hard to say what's happening. Some fairly easy shears at 25cm and 45 cm today, but solid on compression tests. As always, watch the steep slopes (i.e. too far south on Maeyama — stick to the north-side ridge on the main face, particularly if we do get a heavy fall.
