Now that the season is nearly over winter has turned into the Energizer bunny. Snow just keeps coming down as we head backwards into midwinter again. We'll be skimming over powdery pistes in July at this rate. The folks at Ikenotaira and Suginohara are doubtless wondering where all this bounty was when they needed it.

It's another lovely midwinter morning at the end of March, fresh snow falling and crisp temperatures. We're certainly getting our money's worth this weekend and if the forecast is correct, next weekend, the last weekend of the season, too. The cold front keeps going, keeps going and low temperatures and snow off and on are forecast for the rest of the week ahead, although the sun is supposed to come out tomorrow.

The sun stayed out yesterday, but it also stayed cold and the pistes stayed powdery. Wet spring powder, but powder nonetheless. The few more centimeters that fell overnight rendered the roads a slushy mess again this morning and they look set to stay that way most of the day.

Official resort snow depths:

Suginohara:
80cm
Ikenotaira:
85cm
Akakan:
200cm (at top)
Akakura Onsen:
177cm
Madarao:
130cm
Seki Onsen:
260cm
