The sun is out and it's very pleasant out there in Myoko today.

The barometer is falling, though, and we're ready for some fresh snow to come recharge the hills (there's a good chance that blue sky could disappear later on today). It got a little sticky and spring-like out there yesterday afternoon, I heard, and it was certainly crunchy on top of the fresh snow this morning. No major changes in lift operations yet; the holiday travelers aren't here just yet (and how many will actually come, especially with all the changes in government-supported tourism?).

Despite all the madness out there in the world, though, skiing and snow and the beauty of nature will always be there for us who know.... I'm feeling very positive for Christmas Eve, I guess.

From today the Niigata Prefecture government is starting up a special campaign to help support ski areas in the region.

The Niigata Ski Oni Waribiki ('Niigata Ski Demon Discount') campaign lets you buy lift tickets at a special discounted rate at ski areas in the Prefecture, along with rental discounts at some. It looks like most of the ski areas in the area are participating.

The value of the discount available is different at each ski area, but using the campaign you can get a discount of up to 3,500 yen off a 1 day lift ticket and up to 5,500 yen on rental. For lift tickets you are allowed to use the scheme up to two times.

The available information is all in Japanese, but if you or your friends can work with a Japanese website it might be worth taking a look.

The system seems simple enough but you will need to sign up for and use the PassMe! (パスミー)electric ticket system to make use of the campaign.

More information can be found here:

https://niigata-oniwari.jp/

Niigata Ski Oni Waribiki is planned to be available from 24th December 2020 until 28th February 2021.
