Epic!

Absolutely the best powder snow in several years here. Light, fluffy; Hokkaido, you got nothing on us (OK, we love you too).

Seriously, your writer—who is far too tall to be a skier, really—was spitting chunks of snow after massive face shots while skiing at Seki Onsen; the powder is literally that deep out there. Big skis and steep terrain are a must is the only downside (don't even try a telemark turn; been there, did not do that).

Keep an eye for sluffing on the steep, as well as for snow-hidden cracks when heading into ungroomed/side terrain, but otherwise the snow is excellent, the base is great and the skiing really world-class.

Again, some of these figures below have me scratching my head; are some under-reporting so as to not scare off the groomed skier? At least 60cm fell; the un-official word at Seki was a meter, and I don't doubt it. If you do stay on the courses, don't be worried by all this macho powder stuff—it's beautiful, soft skiing on the piste.
