It looks more like the peak of Everest than Myoko outside today. Extremely high winds are ripping through the trees, with blowing snow bringing visibility down to zero at moments. The morning started with some of the promised heavy snow, but as the winds grew a bit of sun came through, and it's now impossible to tell if it's fresh snow or simply blowing off the surface.

It's doubtful if many lifts will be operating, especially on the south side of the mountain (meaning Suginohara to Akakan). The gondolas are especially vulnerable, as are lifts on more open slopes (and, with windchill a real issue today, you wouldn't want to be sitting on an exposed chairlift anyway!). It is cold, so protect exposed skin.

The local forecast is for winds to taper off in the afternoon. Upwards of 80cm of snow have been predicted for today, though, so maybe it's a good day to find a good place to get a good cup of coffee, enjoy the view outside — nature at its rawest and all that stuff — and get ready for the powder to (hopefully) follow.
