The heavy snow hasn't hit yet, but it still is possible. We've had ongoing light snow since morning, and it's snowing heavily down the hill in Joetsu, by the japan Sea coast. It's all good, though; we have some nice fresh new snow on the hill for the weekend.

The quick rain and warmer weather earlier in the week do send up a few signals for those planning to head offpiste; it's likely that there is no hard layer lurking under the new snow, but without digging around a little you can't be sure. be careful, especially on steeps, and on south-facing slopes (which may have gotten more sun, and therefore have a weaker layer in the snow). In general it looks pretty good, but if we do get a pretty big snowfall overnight it can get a little more touchy. Use a little caution, and have (safe) fun.

One interesting aside: watch the snow report from Kyukamura over the past week or so: today we've lost a meter of snow; earlier we gained one overnight (without fresh snow).
