We went to bed with light rain last night, and unfortunately, awoke to even more. Tempretures are high, making the snow pack heavy and unstable. Snow is wet but still plenty of it out there to enjoy, Bring a poncho or rain-coat!

**EXTREME AVALANCHE WARNING**
Warmer tempretures combined with rain on the snow pack will cause surface slides, as well as possible slides to the ground.
Extreme caution necessary.

In two recent pits in the Tsugaike area the following was found of southerly facing slopes.

05/01/08
Tsugaike shizenen, elevation 1800 metres, aspect S
Compression Test Easy @ 38cm from surface on new snow, needles, columns with some faceting occuring size 0.5~2 mm, sudden collapse.

Rutsch Block 2 @ 38 cm

Slope Test. Ski cut, produced size 1 soft slab, 40 cm hieght of crown, 20 x 20 metres in area, deposit stopped mid track.

05/01/09
Tsugaike Tengupara, elevation 2000 metres, aspect SE
Compression Test Easy ~ Moderate @ 33 & 37cm from surface on fist density new snow underlaying wind crust and overlaying 1 finger density snow, with some faceting occurring just above 1 Finger layer, size 0.5 mm, Progressive Compression

Rutsch Block 5 @ 33 cm

Multiple slope use resulted in no slides on South East facing slopes in the Tsugaike area.
