Good morning from Hakuba.

Rain from around lunchtime yesterday and a mostly cloudy day with a high of around 12C.

There's a thick bank of cloud shrouding the mountains this morning and it's a bit of a damp, grey morning. Hopefully it will be drying up this morning.

And it's sunny skies forecast for tomorrow!

Hakuba Goryu did well to keep their base Toomi course open for as long as they did, but it is now closed. Their upper runs remain open and you now need to get the gondola back down to base.

Hakuba 47 wins the 'keeps the base run open longest' award once again this season. Though that run down to base has got noticeably narrower in just the last day... that's what warmth, southerly wind and rain does.

-----

The Hakuba Valley official English summary information still shows the Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen status as 'all courses closed'. They remain open. It also shows Hakuba Iwatake as being 'partially open', and Hakuba Norikura and Hakuba Sanosaka with 'all courses open'. They are closed for the season.

I did not plan on mentioning that again. I mention it only because someone contacted SnowJapan to tell us off for 'posting incorrect information'... and citing that official Hakuba Valley info.

Please believe me. Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen are definitely open. Hakuba Iwatake, Hakuba Sanosaka and Hakuba Norikura are definitely closed. Unfortunately, that official information is incorrect.

Everyone makes mistakes, of course. I have made factual mistakes myself at times (and, I think/hope, admitted to them at the time).

I did contact Hakuba Valley to point these things out a while ago, but unfortunately that information has not been updated.

Total snowfall accumulation on upper areas:

TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION SO FAR (UPPER AREAS)
* Numbers reported by ski areas

Hakuba 47832cm
Hakuba Cortina915cm
Hakuba Goryu1083cm
Hakuba Happo-one867cm

The 'total snowfall accumulation' data shown in the table is the total amount of snowfall that the ski areas have themselves reported from the upper areas of their resort since the beginning of the season. We manually check and update this official data just before we publish each Hakuba Now report. Any odd-looking numbers are due to the source data. We have no control over the data. Just to be extra clear, unlike our own ‘observed snowfall’ data from base that we show at the top of each report, the data in the table is not an independent observation by SnowJapan.
