Today is overcast yet the visibility on the resorts is good. There is no wind down in the valley and a slight breeze up high. Temperatures are warmer than the past few days and there is a 50% chance of rain this afternoon. The conditions will be soft groomed on the resort. The new snow from yesterday was mostly skied up on the resorts but there may be some soft shoulders still waiting to be hit.

Unfortunate news: There were multiple Avalanche deaths yesterday in the Hakuba mountains. 6 people from a group of 12 people were swept away in a large slide off the north side of Goryu Toumi Ridge and 2 people from the 6 swept away died. In another incident 3 people died and 1 remains missing from a group of 5 who were on their way from Tsugaike to Renge Onsen. Another person was injured in the Mountains above Omachi and 1 is missing in Kamikochi.

Avalanche danger remains HIGH.

Natural and human triggered avalanches LIKELY. Travel in avalanche terrain not recommended.

The recent snow fall has put 40 cm of new heavy spring snow that is not bonding well to the wind crust and ice that is below. As temperature rise this hazard will be increasing. Be very aware that the forcasted rain for this afternoon and tomorrow will create very unstable conditions in the back country.

Best to stay on the piste in side the resorts today.
