The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here

Good morning from Hakuba.

It is a cloudy morning and I do not have any fresh cm of snowfall to report - either from base or from the ski resorts.

Happo-one will be opening the Alpen and Kurobishi Number 2 lifts from lunchtime today, meaning that the Usagidaira and Kurobishi course areas should also be open.

More of Hakuba 47 and Goryu is also open from this morning, with access to Hakuba 47 from their base area now OK.

Tsugaike Kogen has announced that it isn't going to be opening just yet as we wait for more snow.

There doesn't look too much snow on the forecast over the next few days with a bit of a milder period early week.

Anyway, time to enjoy what we got so far. Have a great weekend.

Regarding snowfall numbers:

I posted this yesterday but will keep it here for one more day....

You can very easily get lost chasing numbers.

Even a keen observer like myself can sometimes get confused and at times I need to process what seem to be sometimes conflicting reports (official numbers which can be vague; social media posts by the resorts etc).

And of course, as we know - and as I mention in almost every single report I post - more snow falls higher up on the mountain than falls at base areas.

Sadly, I do not live on the top of the mountain and it is impossible for me to properly report from there... on any one day, never mind on a daily and consistent basis.

So for 'mountain numbers', the best I can do is report what the ski resorts themselves say as well as add in any personal notes from when I go out myself.

As something of an experiment, I am for now going to be adding the 'new snowfall' numbers reported by resorts, where available, in the data below. We'll see how that works.

I also have what I hope is a cunningly cunning plan regarding 'numbers', and I will tell you more about it soon - hopefully in a report sometime next week.
