Good morning from Hakuba.

It was windy overnight. And this morning we are experiencing light rain > light snow.

But let me expand on that as there's some much more excellent news to report. It's one of those funky days when we get a good amount of snow on the mountain with way less so down at base.

This morning there is 20-30cm being reported around various ski areas on the upper slopes - hurray!

I have an observed 3cm to report.

We're hoping for more snow base upwards through tomorrow.

Upper snowfall numbers reported by the ski areas are of course reported in my listings below and the totals for the season every day in this excite table:

TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION SO FAR (UPPER AREAS)

Hakuba 47555cm
Hakuba Cortina702cm
Hakuba Goryu762cm
Hakuba Happo-one643cm
Tsugaike Kogen697cm

Here's a message that Happo-one are putting out this morning:

'On Tuesday 2nd February the lower courses from Skyline Lift 2 will be closed all day due to avalanche risk. Please use the Sakka Kitaone Quad Lift to descend (exit) the ski resort.'

Other than that ski areas look like they are opening as planned for the morning.

The 'total snowfall accumulation' data shown in the table on this page (above) is the total amount of snowfall that the ski areas have themselves reported from the upper areas of their resort since the beginning of the season. We manually check and update this official data just before we publish each Hakuba Now report. Any odd-looking numbers are due to the source data. We have no control over the data. Just to be extra clear, unlike our own ‘observed snowfall’ data from base that we show at the top of each report, the data in the table is not an independent observation by SnowJapan.
